Charlie , Bravo or Whiskey ??

Says that It looked like durban and all. Therefore must be an Impi. But wait then he would be Zulu. Either way, they'll never find him so he might as well be a Unicorn.

On Sunday the 4th of August 2013 a bike was stolen off the back of our car right outside the SPAR there by Idas Valley in Stellenbosch at around 12:00 whilst the place was packed.

When I asked the car guard who said "ek sal mooi kyk my lanie" before we went in he claimed that is not his section and another car guard is responsible for that area - 20 m from where he was standing - JOKE.

Anyway , luckily a family saw what happened and chased the guy down and get the bike back.

Some other guy approached me and said that a Red Bakkie dropped the thief off and then said "where must I pick you up".

I then took a drive down Banghoek street from the spar to see if I can see something. I found them sitting by BP in Merriman there on the PnP centre side.

When I drove towards the bakkie the guy who was standing next to the car saw me approaching and then started ducking behind the vehicle to hide away. When I stopped behind the Bakkie and wanted to get out he ran towards the PnP centre which looked like Durban on New Years day.

I then took my phone out and snapped some pics whilst the driver swore at me and what not.

So be on the lookout for an old red Ford bakkie similair to the old Mazda Drifter with a car Reg CL36593.

When i went to the police station to tell them that the bakkie is parked there by the PnP centre and if they can send a Van with me so I can show them. They told me that our Tax money is all currently occupied in Kyamandi and when the vans come back they have to be washed first before they can go out again. I mean how can you get angry at that?

That guard would have come running from 50m away for his "fee" had he known there was no trouble with your car at all.

I spoke to one of my cycling mates who read the post and ran the number plate.

Apparently the owner of this car has got a sheet of criminal offences thats longer than my bicyle pump.

How they still roam the streets I dont know.

The justice system is failing is failing us gentlemen......

One of my Co workers had his mtb and road bike stolen off his car at work. Was on a Thule eueoride or similar style rack. Cut through the straps pinched the bikes. This was in a secure parking lot with monitored cctv! Lost an sworks epic and a tarmac sorts. What happens to all these bikes? Anyone ever seen a suspiciously pricey bike being ridden by someone who probably should have bought some bread instead?

And if you do, anyone know what course of action you can take? (Legally)

That BP will have CCTV.

Yep there are many cameras at BP.

Also, don't leave your bike on the rack in Stellies unattended! This place is bicycle stealing heaven. I would never take my bike to campus.

the cop response needs to be taken up the ladder. THat's just utter bull, blowing off a concerned citizen. Who does one raise the concern to? Public protector?

googled it: seems the independant complaints directorate is defunct: even the webpage doesn't load anymore. www.ipid.gov.za

So it will have to be to the Policing Complaints Center:

edit: just thinking that, i'd contribute toward a fund that hires a PI to investigate this whole matter because lets be real about these thigns: outside of vigilantism, the public is powerless, and more so due to the ineffectiveness of the cops, who are apparently too busy polishing their knobs to do any real policing, and the real cops are too busy trying to catch the increasing numbers of f'ing hardcore criminals out there. Meanwhile, Rome is burning...

Not a bad idea at all just thinking about it. Why not have a fund of sorts to pay for a PI?

Only gets paid if bike is found or robber is handed over?

Hub could make contributions?

Something must be done for cyclists by cyclists because the cops have shown they are unable to do anything. The legal system is also corrupt beyond redemption it seems.

You will never know when it will happen to you.

Just saying.

Policing is an issue in Stellenbosch- the police can raid Idasvalley, Kreefgat or Kayamandi any day of the week and fill a bike shop with bits and pieces. Problem is, prosecuting this will be almost pointless as they cant even get rapist and murderers behind bars and these gangsters know where all these cops and their families live..... So unless they are caught red handed in the act, not much is going to change from Policing side. Sad day that majority of peoples lives are dictated by a minority of thugs.
