Switch to mountain biking only??

Hi Hubbers. I'm currently wrestling with a thought. I own a decent (Bianchi mono q, which is on sale already :D ) roadbike and carbon frame 29er mountain bike. Lately I've been riding my mountain bike a lot more, perhaps due to the fact that the early morning rides are on a low due to the winter chill. Also, I started cycling with mountain biking.

Lately, however, I'm wondering If I shouldn't get rid of my road bike and mountain bike and get myself a very nice mountain bike instead. Where I live, the gravel roads are endless and, of course, much safer. On the other hand I am in two minds, because if spring arrives, so does the will to get up early for a quick 35-40k ride. This usually happens with a road bike (which is the main reason I got one to begin with).

What would you do? Do you think I will regret not having a road bike?

Same boat as you.

Starting to thing about the safety aspect......

But I recon you'll miss the road bike too much.

Funny thing, sold my Road Bike to concentrate on MTB - as I also come from a MX/Enduro background made sense.

The missus was only too happy as the safety aspect was a huge concern for her.

Love my MTB but miss my road bike terribly - specially when watching Le Tour etc. on tv.

I reckon once you don`t have something its human nature to then want it again.

Keep the road bike. The roads you ride seem safe where you live judging by your comment. I enjoy a break from Mtb every once in a while to gas it on the tar. I find it nice sometimes to just get in a rythm of pure cycling without having to concentrate on rocks, trees and snakes.

Hang the road bike up for a couple of months and see if you miss it. If not, sell it. I only ride mountain bike and love it.

Also considered selling my road bike as I hardly use it - max twice a year for the odd race. All other riding on the mtb's - plenty safer etc. Thus I am 99% mountain biker, but nothing as exiting as the dynamics of a road race! PeterF's is good advice. I prepped my road bike for a possible sale and took it for the first ride in months......instantly realised that I'm not prepared to part with it and kept it.

My riding buddy sold his dogma the day after Burry's death. He mentioned today that he is missing the road riding even though he enjoys mtb'ing more. Keep both!
