Wanted to give a heads up for people to be careful when parking at the Tokai Arboretum parking lot. I went for a ride at 6h30 this morning and while I was gone, somebody smashed my side window to gain entry into my car. It seems that Tokai is been targeted

sorry to hear this. i never cycle table mountain/rhodes cos of the muggings. I always feel safe at Tokai and actually only fear baboons. now i am very upset because now Tokai is not even reasonably safe of late. I often cycle alone in Tokai (I know it is not the safest) but often my timing doesn't allow me to organise a ride or no one is available when I do want to go. I am one of the first cars at Tokai. This is ridiculous. I would like to get involve to make it safer, don't know how. but this can't carry on. then I might as well hang up my mtb and brave the road

i feel like if i catch one of these okes I will M*&r them in their ma se *&^%, reality is that I will probably wet my pants if i get attacked. Parking at trail & tar a good idea, but geez it is crap that one has to go through all this &^*&. You not even safe if you two, they attacked 2 people with sticks a week ago!

Two people miles from anybody else at the time and, quite possibly, the two people that looked the least likely to put up a big fight (husband and wife) that they had seen that day. Plenty of people had ridden past the scabby rats untouched up to that point.

If it had been two large guys riding they wouldn't have even thought about attacking them.

The moral? Non really other than maybe ride with a rugby team...

Have a look in the Tokai forum, there is a free self defence course for anybody that wants to attend.

Similar thing happened at Hoogenkraal trail last week Thursday ... got back to my car just before sunset, to find it had been broken into (also through side window). When I reported the incident at the Durbanville police station, I was told this was the second break-in being reported for the same parking area that day!!! I spoke to a friend, who had left the parking about 15 minutes before I got back down to my car. He mentioned that there had been a lot of activity, with riders packing up, etc. so these guys have to be watching the place, to pull off the deed without being noticed.

not safe on the roads due to mini taxi drivers with fake drivers licenses and not safe on the mountain due to the previously lesser spotted Skara Mink now becoming more populous.

Well, I seriously need a dose of pick-me-up this morning.

Last night some lowlife tried to steal my friends' E class Merc in front of my house and properly busted all the door locks as well as the ignition.

I think I'll head for Tokai and pack my pepper spray. Who knows, today may just be the day I get to marinade some scumbag, or have another lovely ride.

It really feels like the world is turning to **** this morning.
