Of the total number of riders, how many finished though? Better to find the % of sub 3hr from finishers

Heres the mail

This year the organisers of the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour, the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, have decided that they will identify and invite riders to ride the Cycle Tour twice.

You have been identified as one of the few cyclists that have qualified to ride twice based on your seeding index.

Perhaps you would like to ride a second lap to raise money for a charity or maybe you just want a chance to relax and take in the beautiful scenery.

If you are interested in riding twice, please read the information below as well as the procedure to follow.

You were selected based on the following criteria:

  • Riders must have a seeding index of approximately 23 or better.

Rules

All the normal event rules will apply with special emphasis on the following:

  • A second entry fee of R360 will be charged for those who enter for a second time.
  • All cut off points will apply and no additional time will be allowed for riding twice
  • Riders who have not been pre-approved and who attempt to ride twice, or ride twice, will be disqualified
  • Riders must go over the start mats for their first and second lap
  • Riders must wear a RaceTec (or Winning Time) chip on their first and second lap
  • Riders must go over all the timing mats on the route
  • Riders will get two results
  • Only the first lap’s result will apply towards Cycle Tour history and future seeding
  • Riders on their second lap must be courteous to other riders
  • Riders need to complete the first lap in full
  • No substitutions will be allowed for second lap entries
  • The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust reserves the right to limit the number of entrants riding twice

The Start (First Lap)

  • The normal check in procedure applies

The Start (Second Lap)

  • Riders must arrive back at the start for their second lap no later than 09h50
  • A second start card for the second lap will be in your race pack
  • The normal check in procedure applies
  • Riders can start in any start group, but must load in the chutes and not from the front

Medal

  • Riders will not qualify for an additional finishers medal but can decide whether to take it on their first or second lap

No special medal will be issued for riding twice

I get the adjustment of the winners time and the beta factor as then applied to all. But I may be wrong but I don't seem to pick up that the mountain bike winning time is adjusted and no adjustment to this when these are used for your road seeding. Effectively the easiest way to get your road seeding up is go off road, which is surely not acceptable! Should be Road for road seeding only and mountain biking for off road seeding only. Only then will it be fair for all.

I think you'll find that in general it's much tougher to get a good index on a mtb race than on a road race, no groups to hide in for weaker riders & the race leaders can really put a lot of time between you & them on technical sections & long climbs which won't really happen in "flatter" road races(unless you lose your group).

But if you don't agree with me, get on that mtb and work the flaw in the system to improve your seeding for next year's Argus ^_^

From my seeding, they used both the road and mountain interchangeably and treated them both as one list in the Road and MTB seedings..... go figure.

Looking for a new kask helmet and some sunglasses, Oakley or Rudy. Should I wait till expo? Think there will be any decent specials? Was there any specials for these items, last year if any one can remember?

Last year i can recall the best deals were from CWC - but it was mainly on bits and bobs not really helmets etc - there was an Oakley stand there, but cant comment on whether there were deals or not

I've never really managed to find anything much at the Expo. Mainly because it is so overcrowded in there with such a bad vibe, that I try to get out as soon as I can. I have tried though, for many a year, but that place finally got the better of me. That is my one rant at the Cycle Tour: The terrible venue of the Expo, and how the flow through the dungeons are designed to funnel sheep to the slaughter rather than riders to cyclist heaven. I have come to accept it by now and I gave up hope that they'll move it to the CTICC.

I agree with you DJR.

I was fine with the whole Expo thing until last year when a cyclist who had bought too much stuff to carry to his car in one trip, was forced to pay to re-enter to collect the balance of his purchases. Overzealous security gaurd I know - but WTF.

That left a bitter taste in the mouth and spoilt my "Spirit of the Argus" fundraiser of note - mindset.

Since then I've seriously questioned who the real beneficiaries of the Argus are and now that the organisers have decided to charge for the second lap - well - go figure.

Lest they not forget where The Argus would be without The Cyclists.
