Neil the sketchy bike shop owner is probably trading on the fact you guys are clueless and scared of stepping on his toes. Step on his toes and see what he does, a little bit of reverse psychology, ie tell Neil you are not a registered Pawnbroker/loanshark so either you play nice and give the bike back for the money + interest as agreed or I lay a charge with the cops etc for theft and/or illegally operating.

A pawnshop type of loan entails a whole lot of legal paperwork, specifying interest, all fees, loan period etc the cops will want to see that to verify he is now the legal owner of the bike and when its not forth coming the cops will go mmmm. Without those legally mandated documents Neil may legally not be the owner of the bike.

But learn a lesson , you guys made a deal with the devil didn't pitch with the cash(cash you gladly took from him) and now you want him to play by your rules, ie being gentlemanly and nice, is that a reasonable expectation?

Good luck getting the bike back!

k@k business ethic for sure, but maybe your buddy can buy it back for R9k it will still be cheaper than getting another bike. I don't know niel but if he is looking for the full value of the bike then he is a real d**s in my eyes and shouldn't be trading as a bike shop.

Just my 2c

My 2c is that ... It sounds like a pawn shop deal. Neil took the chance and got the deal swinging his way. Hard lesson to learn. Why not take out a pers. loan and still have your bike ??

After all the negative post wrt Neils Wheels I think he won this one. So it took you 4 months and 23H & 58 minutes to know that Neil is no LBS . Feel for you as a cyclist , BUT i would rather have sold my bike have the money and no if's and buts.

Thought this was going to be another post of NW selling stolen stuff and was ready to support but now how do you happily deal with him knowing his lack of ethics and then wait till the last minute before trying to negotiate some leeway, comon!

Bottom line I suppose, Money was loaned out with bike as security. Person wanted to negotiate late payment, although this is good comunication, Neil probably under no obligation to accept.Glad its not me. Good luck

Does it matter?

He borrowed money with his bike as security then left it too late to redeem it

Another perfect Hubber right here, never been desperate in his life.

I never said he must get his bike back yes he did a stupid deal but you don't know what his circumstances are so think before judging the situation Mr perfect

I think....he should have just sold his bike in the first place if he was as desperate as you say.

Maybe his mate should have advised him in the first place instead of trying to drum up anti NW sentiment

Stupid, stupid first post from 'a friend' of the actual protagonist. Never thought i could be made sympathetic to Neil's Wheels.

People are on this forum for years talking about everything under the sun; then OP shows up with this non-story wanting us to get all 'pitchforks and torches' on behalf of his naive mate.

Sorry for the mate - suggest he goes down tbe shop and makes a fuss.
