Squier Posted October 23, 2013 Share As per my thread posted a while back (https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/130116-have-you-ever-crashed-so-hard/) I ripped of the soles of my Sidi MTB shoes when I crashed at Red Barn. Yes, I fell pretty hard but it was by no stretch of the imagination a major crash. I had no injuries. After weeks of deliberation ASG and Sidi have decided not to come to the party and assist me in this situation. To be fair, the shoes were about 18 months old, so outside of the warranty period. Still, when you pay R2500 for a pair of Sidi's, you'd at least expect a decent quality product and even perhaps some backup from the local agent. I do not believe the soles ripping off of the shoes after 18 months is acceptable and definitely not in line with my expectations of a quality product. I will never buy Sidi's again and would urge you to consider this information when considering to spend your money on this product. r0adrunner
Caerus Posted October 23, 2013 Share I'm about to buy a pair of Sid's tomorrow, could this not just be an isolated incident?

kennyg Posted October 23, 2013 Share In your incident, what are you expecting to gain from ASG/Sidi? Its sounds like driving your BMW into a lamp post and saying that BMW is responsible for the mistake. As a guy that examines engineering flaws and circumstance, your claim fails on two basic levels: 1. Warranty period - 18 months, could related to 10 000km.2. Crash - A highlight of exceptional circumstance applied to the product. Edited October 23, 2013 by kennyg Li Mu Bai
Erroli8a8 Posted October 23, 2013 Share It could just be a once off incident.' but it could also be a fault in the manufacturing process, the glue used that day or week on all the shoes might have been tainted but who knows. take a look at the Fox thread, they have posted a voluntary recall on something that has happened once and might never happen again. that is a brand that you should follow. safety first always. shoes or shox the end results are the same. i would not expect Sidi to replace them but i would have hoped that they would offer you a possible discount on a new pair. but then again for a pair of shoes to last 18 months on a mountain bike i think is resonable, maybe, maybe not
'Dale Posted October 23, 2013 Share Definitely a freak pair of Sidis. Despite being a roadie, I am running out excuses to buy a new pair as my old ones just don't want to fade. 428 others
TALUS Posted October 23, 2013 Share My Giro shoes also developed a defect after about a year. On the cusp of out of warranty but they said they are happy to do a replacement. Maybe consider Giro also for your next purchase.
MintSauce Posted October 23, 2013 Share The fact is that the forces applied in an accident can be quite severe, even though you might not have been injured. That being said, I feel ASG could at least offer you a replacement pair at cost, similar to the deals offered my helmet suppliers, since both soles completely ripping off certainly raises suspicions. I do have to add though, I'm currently on Specialised shoes that are falling apart after 3 yrs. My two previous sets of Sidis lasted me 7 and 6 yrs respectively. I gave the first pair to a friend and the 2nd pair are in my cupboard as backup since they're still in perfectly usabel form, except for being as flexible as my slippers. My brother is on his 4th pair of Sidis. Same story, all replaced as upgrades rather than being broken in any way. r0adrunner

rouxtjie Posted October 23, 2013 Share My 1st pair of shimano shoes did the same crocodile trick, they were 4 years old though and walked plenty a hill. On my second pair of shimano shoes...2.5 years old, still going strong... They might not be as bling as the sidi's but hell they are tough Ed-Zulu

Sani Posted October 23, 2013 Share I have 4 pairs , 1 MTB pair and 3 road pairs , no problems thus far , did 2 Sani2c races , completely drenched them in the shallow river crossings , walked the Push of a climb on both occasions , had a couple off crashes and they still look good , Hopefully a isolated problem . Cassie Posted October 23, 2013 Share Seriously, i'm on the el-cheapo Olympic MTB shoes...they offer everything i could want!! First pair lasted 3 years (with PLENTY of up-mountain walking!!)...I'm now 1 year into my second pair and still cannot justify any other shoe that will cost me 2-4x more... Big up on Olympics!!
