Hi Hubbers

Was at Northerns yesterday and saw a lady being loaded into an ambulance on the service road next to the N14 at around 10.30. Looked like she may have suffered a stroke or something.

Any one know any more details and how she is?

"Northern Farm feedback Sunday 27 October

At around 09h30 our ER24 Medic had to attend to a lady MTBer who was smacked head on by another speeding MTBer as she was exiting the tunnel to start her ride under the N14 highway, the offending MTBer was selfishly keeping his average high on his training ride and did not bother to look up as he turned right to enter the tunnel on his way back to the car park. We can only urge all trail users to be respectful and slow down where trails connect and keep left when bi-directional traffic is encountered.

The lady MTBer took a heavy knock to the face and after being stabilized she was taken to hospital by ambulance to have her broken nose attended to.

Apart from the above most riders enjoyed wet trails and it was entertaining seeing many muddy faces after their rides.

Be respectful and keep it safe folk, happy trails!"

Great; now we have to watch out for careless drivers/riders when we're trying to have a peaceful, stress-relieving ride out amongst the shrubbery too, not just in the traffic where we have been forced to expect it. Just frikkin wonderful, aint it?

Hope the auntie recovers soon.

I was almost taken out by a kid who cut across onto the wrong side before entering the bridge (at high speed) once as well, suppose it was just a matter of time before someone got hit there.

They should name and shame the offender. :-< Hope the lady heals up soon and that the offender pays any med aid shortfall.

Mmmmm Thats a bit harsh ? I am sure we all know that corner very well and it is nice to cut across and take it at speed . There are a few other intersections at NF where the same could have happened .

Knowing this corner well is EXACTLY why I think the offender should be held responsible. Everyone who knows it knows that you can't see oncoming riders or farm vehicles until the last moment and as such it needs to be treated with caution not reckless inconsiderate selfish abandon.

just dumb, wtf do you have to speed thru the tunnel for. aweful to cause an accident like that

     Agreed.........WTF do you need to go at speed there ? Not necessary and just plain friggin stupid. No tablets available for stupidity.

When going from bright sunshine into the darkness of that tunnel, it often takes a second or 2 for your eyes to adjust and you have a sort of temporary blindness and because of this the mtbiker should have slowed down and also be aware that there will be people coming the other way. There are often vehicles coming through that tunnel at the same time.

Have to agree, just dumb and disrespectful to the situation, location and others whether on a MTB, on foot or a vehicle!

matter of time, if you are turning right back into the tunnel from your ride, going from daylight to the darkness of the tunnel makes 100% visibility a bit of an issue - even if it is for a very brief period. Wonder if there is perhaps not another way to either leave the car park area or return back to the car park area - meaning that there is different points for starting and returning a ride?

Unfortunately it wasn't a tractor coming instead of that poor lady. Teach the idiot a lesson having a head on with a tractor in a tunnel.......................
