Grabs your attention doesn't it?

That is what could easily be the next topic here on the hub.

On may to work this morning and still dark outside I counted 7 cyclists with no lights on their bikes. Some even ignoring a very nice cycling path and riding on a very dicey stretch of road shared by trucks and cars.

If they get knocked over who is to blame? We all then start to rant and rave about motorists and the way they drive.

If you can afford the bike surely you can afford a light. If not wait until the sun is shining then go and train.

Ride in the dark with no lights and get knocked over or possibly even killed is not going to get you any sympathy from me. You deserved it.

some people never learn. It is silly and irresponsible. We cannot complain about motorists if we dont keep to the rules ourselves.

It always amazes me why the dragstrip that is Otto Du Plessis is used when there is a perfectly good dedicated cycle lane.

and since when has a red traffic light turned into a yield sign as soon as your on a bicycle??? did 2 long rides the last couple of days and i can count on my one hand the cyclists who actually stopped at red traffic lights but let one be taken out by a car they don't see and everybody will be up in arms again! Obey the rules if you want to use the road!!

Blerrie Idiots!!!

We train early in the mornings...and everybody has front and back lights...with 20 to 40 cyclists on the road, it looks like a construction site gone bad with all the Back red lights flashing and 1000 + Lumins lights in the front...LOL  :whistling:

I am not condoning the riding on Otto Du Plessis in the direction of CT from Table View >>> but I also sometimes do it (put on flame suit) as it is hectic trying to cross the intersections at Pentze/Blouwberg and Blouwberg/Otto Du Plessis, thanx to all those idiots in cars coming (mostly) from Parklands, who do not need to stop at red lights and will drive into the intersection which is already blocked. By using Otto Du Plessis I can cross over to the cycle path at more cyclist friendly traffic lights at Dolfin Beach, Lagoon Beach or Race Course Rd. The shoulder is wide on the section I use and I assume the other cyclists who do as I do aslo feel safer crossing at the above intersections. But I agree riding on O D P in the dark with no lights is a really dumb thing to do

I'm certain that there aren't any cyclists 'down', who come back and look for sympathy on The hub. I imagine that they're coasting wherever they're enjoying the next life.

I'm sure that those riding without lights have weighed up the risks and made their call, so why would I want to spoil my day, by taking exception to their choice.

@The Big Guy Thanks for the sarcasm. Went down well with my coffee. If you've seen such a thread before why bother reading it and even waste your time to comment on it?

Nothing better to do?
