My friend had a short contract with the Post Office to service their little motorbikes, the state of those things was shocking! Ripped seats, buckled wheels, brakes down to the metal, chains neglected, sticky throttles, borken mirrors!

I think it would be worse for the guys to have geared bikes as evidently when things dont work you still have to use them as the Post Office seems too tight to foot the bill for general running repairs....

Is it a reliability issue? Wouldn't the reduction in delivery time be worth something if they could actually pedal up hills instead of having to push? Anyone know what gear ratios those bikes normally run?

I tried to edit the post to add another question but it failed.

More important than gears I think - WHY are they not issued high-viz/reflective gear? $$$ I bet as well, but that's not an acceptable excuse. I passed one today in the rain wearing the usual dark blue raincoat. If not for the (dull) red of the bike he'd have been invisible.

Hit the nail on the head, I think those bikes are old yet still working great so no need to upgrade.

Reminds me of the ice-cream guys on bikes, same deal.

SIMPLE TO USE BULLET PROOF, if he is pushing it he isnt spending enough time on the IDT

This was the last known photo of Potman on his bicycle

Fantastic! I've always wanted to see a real potman and now I have!
