I wouldn't go from such a cushioned shoe with around 11mm drop and pronation control to a minimal 6mm drop shoe directly unless you are used to shoes in that range or intend to only put it in your rotation for certain runs.  Rather try something around 8mm with some cushion.

Thanks for the concern. I generally run in X233's (6mm drop), VFF's and Sandals, so it's only my Wings which are a throw back to the early 2000's.

Has anyone run up Sani before? I've ridden up already but heading back in December for another holiday and want to run it this time.

What I'd like to know is should I take the trail shoes or just use my normal distance trainers? Will just be running up and getting in the car for the return if that makes a difference.

Anyone here thinking of doing Skyrun next year?

Looks like I committed myself to entering next year, 9 years after my last one!

100kms is a bit FRIS for me, I am going to try and enter a few marathon distance events next year ( bit of a shortage of those up here in Gauteng though)

I plan on doing Mnweni (+- May) and Crazy Store (+- Aug)  but other than those two there aren't many long distance races in and around JHB.

If I can get an entry for Rhodes (+- July), I'll probably go down for that.

Anyone have recommendations for a running type vest that can hold a 2lt bladder and 2 x 500ml bottles as well as food / rain jacket etc?

I'm looking at...

but damn, they're not cheap and the Salomon is ridiculously priced.

Those things are mal. I use my Deuter bag. Prob not as comphy as those but it works... It holds a 3lt bladder and all my stuff quite well. The Brauhouse run is also a cool long run and it gives you skyrun points...

I use a Camelbak Marathoner vest at the moment, paid around 1,100 at Solomons a few months ago

The bug bit not long ago. Absolutely love hiking and trailing in general, and well now im at a point where walking is just too slow.

Think I went a bit too quickly into it as I now have issues around my ITB and hip rotation etc. Physio will get it right then im back on the trails. Hope to enter my first trail run early next year.

Would say its a good thing when buying shoes to go to guys that knows what they doing they usually see it right away.

Not trying to be facetious , but where do you find these guys in JHB area ?

Anyone used these before? any feedback?

http://shop.camelbak.com/arc-2/d/50238_c_1300_cl_3717

I have used the Nathan equivalent, the trail mix.

Works okay, there is still some bounce.  Was rather pricey at the time, I see capestorm now have their own version

Costs around 350 if I remember correctly.

The belts are okay, I only use mine when running short distances (I try to teach myself to proactively drink water while running) longer runs I use the vest

Want to use it on my run days. I have a normal camelback I use for MTB, but is a waste to use on a 12-15km run. looks like the bounce will be less than on a big bottle belt and looks like it has space for a phone (if its not on Strava, it did not happen)

This weekend in the runner mag I read a feature on a review they did on hydration systems and this one was in there. Looks like you buy it and then you can add bottles as you need. I see it is on special here:
