I've also done Pretoria to St Michaels on an R80/7 BMW.  That was a lot more fun than the Guzzi - much more comfortable and the screen made is quite pleasant actually.

 

Maybe its time for a little trip again on the TRX.....

We've done the Jhb to Durban trip on our "Fifty's" in the early 80's. Took mostly the back roads, and slept over in Harrismith at a friends family.

Now that was an epic trip.(and crazy)

I so wanted to do a trip like that but my mom was having none of it.

 

Having said that, I have done a few trips from Dbn to Jhb on a 1936 Velocette 2-stroke.  That's an epic ride.

It was, the few of us still alive today, still chat about it whenever we get together.

 

It was quite an eclectic bunch of bikes, with a few "exotics" of that time, such as an Kreidler, a Zundapp and a Puch in the group.

 

I was on my brand spanking new Yamaha RZ50LC, and I was the only one not to have any mechanicals there and back. 

 

We sommer slept on the beach infront of the Beach Hotel on the esplanade. Crazy, hey??

Exotic bikes those. Couple of mates of mine had a Zundapp and a Kreidler. they raced down the Blue route lying flat on the seat and tank with legs out the back. I think they got up to about 100km/h. would that be right? Ai, those were the days. When you were to young and dumb to care about consequences, haha

Just found the old Suzuki 125GP (Not the exact one, mine was a death trap on wheels) that I used have in high school .... this one is also a gazillion times better condition that the one I had and costs R17400.00 more than I paid back then

My cousin had one of those which I had on long term 'borrowing' for a while.  It was so much faster than my Honda MTX50 which I had at the time.  I remember going over Ou Kaapse Weg, I'd have to ride in the yellow line going up, but nobody was catching me down the other side around the bends

Also learnt to do really long stoppies on that bike.  It was so light and just made you want to do stupid things all the time.

 

I miss the fun and simplicity of those little bikes.

I'm so desperate for a road trip, I offered to ride my mate's Husky 701 down to CT for him....

 

Sadly he arranged transport, but I think my behind may be secretly thanking it's lucky stars

Yeah, I've seen one braaaping around the placeevery so often. LOVE that sound.

I'd still be very torn between this and a ktm smc 690

spotted this on Gumtree ..... been working on the wife RE the bike, but do not think it will happen now (Spending cash on other "more important things" right now) .... is this a good price for the bike?

 

From my little knowledge I would think it is, and then if one has to ship a bike from JHB to CT is it a small fortune?

When living in Josie, I did day rides to that trout place outside Nelspruit....Millies I think. Sure you can buy smoked trout in Josie, but nicer to go and get it at the trout farm!

600km round trip if I remember correctly!

 

Did Josie Scottburgh for the night on the FZR, was a lekker ride!
