Is motorcycling allowed?

Seems that things turned out for the better (really thankful for this). The bit of play on the crankshaft/flywheel is apparently normal according to the manual of the bike - 0.30mm to 0.50mm tolerance allowed. We did ask for an opinion at BMW Stellenbosch, so the alternator also has a small bearing that counters for it. We should just monitor it but for time being, the bike must be ridden and enjoyed!

New stator was fitted and indeed working as confirmed today with my friend's voltmeter - the alternator is finally charging the battery!

The next challenge is to get a new bike stand since it broke off. I know of Rockfox that specialises in stuff like this, will make a stop at them to ask if they can assist.

Now to get my confidence levels back.

Went to meet with a client on site, pulled up on the HD and a little after he pulled up on his Honda Valkyrie .... I regret not taking a pic of the two bikes parked next to eachother!

Was also fun leaving with him and riding part of the way back ... have not purposely ridden with another rider yet.

It was also my first "night ride" .... what a feeling, and you can smell the ground and ocean so much more in the cold crisp air, I wanted to just keep going. It also turns out that sound travels a little further in the evening when things quite down before curfew, so the wife heard me coming and made sure to open the garage door for me and have a cup of tea ready .... must of heard me a little way off then :)

Left Woodstock at 8pm and back home in Sunningdale by 8:20pm ... would not do that sort of time in a car :P.

Not his bike, but a ref pic

Certain bikes are legends, the Africa Twin XRV750, Bmw HP2, Bmw R80GS (dakar and kalahari versions) amongst others.

There is a certain amount of extra money that sometimes are asked on the selling price for these bikes. If you would look on the 2nd hand book value, the bikes are nowhere near the asking price on paper.

Not exactly like a classic, where after a certain amount of time it's classified as a "classic" and there are recorded sales that kinda sets the market value.

Hope i'm making sense. Also stand to be corrected.

Yep you summed it up nicely. XT500 and XR500 also example of legend tax.

Just a nice way of saying you paying more than you should or what the bike is worth.

Epic!

I mean like a Spez Epic S-Werx build ... it has a "reputation" locally
