Well done, I'm still sitting on the fence with this banting thing thank you.

At what stage during the 16kgs of weight loss did you treat yourself to the fancy ass R100k bike?! Was it a case of not being to lose anymore off the body, so might as well get down to UCI weight limits?!

I just cut out sugar (chocolates, cakes, sweets, etc), potatoes, wheat (pasta, bread, etc) rice, oats (except when going long) and beer. I only had 3GI if the ride was over 2 hours long otherwise I just drank water on the bike If the ride was over three hours i would have oats for breakfast. Other than that I went full fat everything, yogurt, cream, chicken skin, fat on biltong, etc

Funny enough i eat all the stuff that you exempted yourself from, while I’m not pooh paah’ing the whole concept what I really would like to know as someone who grew up eating all the simple carbs stuff like cereal, oats, breads, potato, pasta, wheat, sweets etc…. did i mention i'm a massive chocolate lover.....

What the hell do you have for breakfast every day, I’m asking about breakfast mainly because its usually the most time crunched meal of the day i.e. less time to faf around cooking stuff and much easier to eat out of the box…

My 2c...

I'm 1.90m and 2 months ago weighed 100kg when I started the banting diet. Today I weigh 91.5kg with not change in exercise, actually, maybe a little less than usually due to the rainy weather.

The first 2 weeks of cutting sugar and carbs were difficult!!!! Moody and headaches, but if you can get past them and the cravings, you will never have felt better.

Yes, meals can be tricky at first and you go through a ton of eggs and cauliflower, but eventually you get into a groove and meal preps become like any other.

I never had high cholesterol, but have planned to visit the doc at the end of the month to make sure I am still on par.

Well done!

But I daresay... if I had to cut out so many calories in what-ever form, I would also loose many kilograms.

You would loose even more if you cut most of the fat off biltong, eat regular low-fat yoghurt etc.

That's why i asked my question, i eat all the stuff Andrew mentioned (carbs and fats) and have come down from 80 kg (Dec 2013) to 74.5 (today) and i'm eating more of everything (fats / carbs) all that has changed is my training time (increased) and intensity (Mostly LSD).

Boet if he cut the fat and carbs out he would evaporate quickly methinks...

I am starting to find Tim Noakes theory credible based on a lot of anecdotal evidence and I can believe there is science to it.

However, where I get stuck is on the cholesterol. How can you consume the things which are so high in cholesterol and have the level in your body drop? What is the science behind that? If there is an explanation, I would be keen to give this Banting a go.

Check this article out, it explains the link between cholesterol and food quite succinctly:

In my mind there is no question whether the banting/Tim Noakes/LCHF etc diet works... it clearly does... if you want to loose weight. Is it sustainable in the long term? Are there long-term effects? I do not know.

One of the docs overseas made a comment along the line of 'if you believe eating cholesterol will increase your cholesterol, you may as well eat brains to get cleverer' or some such.
