Bull Sh@t !! "Our stores and records are open to full inspection at anytime and there is a time-lag of seven days before anything we purchase goes on sale"

Can u pls keep us hubbers informed of your progress. I am pretty interested to see how this turns out from perspective of A- you getting your ride back from cash crusaders and B- nailing the b@stard.

Got to get the cops involved as this must be a syndicate operating in Cape Town area. Seems to slick for an one man opportunist.

I lost my bike this week and have a description of the suspect. I would appreciate of the OP can get as much info as possible on who sold the bike to Cash Crusaders.

Criminal charges should be laid against that Cash Crusaders. They are dealing in stolen goods.

As far as I know the stores are supposed to have a policy of asking for proof of purchase or ownership for bikes (may not be company wide but I know some do).

getting the cops involved may not get your bike back, as it may be seized as evidence.

Here's a story:

Sister's camera gear gets nicked. Insurance claim and is covered fully. Someone spots the gear at Cash Crusaders (obviously stolen - 100k of gear for 30k). She phones insurance company to ask for advice (she's going to get paid out remember) and they say NOT to get the cops involved as they'll take the gear and the insurance company won't see it again (it's theirs now, as the claim is paid). She eventually paid 3k to Cash Crusaders, took the gear (they were cool about it). Weird I know, but that's how it went... Sad, sick and stupid

The Cash Crusaders had the guy on CCTV, and a copy of his ID and everything...

NOTE: This is experience from a family member. I DO realise that every situation is different. I hope the OP gets his bike back one way or another, and the perp gets they comeuppance

The perps won't get nailed if the cops aren't involved. If everyone keeps on about either how useless the cops are and doesn't bother - or figure it's too much effort as insurance has already paid out - that is what keeps the syndicates in business. The same people happy to pull a gun, or hurt you real bad.

Ppl always will want to score a deal so there will always be a market for parts, asking as that market exists, if you own something they can sell, you'll always be a target. Rather at least try make it more difficult for them surely?

Once it's reported stolen you may not recover it without the cops present as far as I am aware so you must get them involved. Cash Crusaders will have a copy of the ID from the seller and most of these guys have sold many items to CC so they know them well... CC will help the cops to get the people as it is in their best interests - they claim ignorance, but they normally buy these bikes for around R2k which they have to know is considerably less than the real value (their entire existence is based on them knowing the real value of the goods). Put pressure on the cops to follow up on it and keep calling them until they actually do it - a lot of them are really good and will help you.

I recovered a stolen bike from Wynberg CC and they gave the bike back without any delay (carbon Niner with XX groupset - they'd paid R3200 for it). They had 3 pages of items they'd bought from the same guy and all at ridiculously low prices (basically all the stuff you would find if you were to clear out a few garages).

Why are Cash Converters not being a bit more proactive here? I understand they running a business, but clearly there's a problem with cycling gear, bikes etc They could easily report suspicious bikes as soon as they come through the door!!
