The Beer Debate

The vegan-friendly status starts to be eroded if certain processing aids are used e.g. gelatin and isinglass.

Some would argue that as yeast is a single-celled organism that its use in brewing is non-vegan but it's a weak argument.

Technically, beer is made from malted barley and or corn. The hops are there as a bittering or flavouring addition in the boil cycle and dry hopping.

So yeah its all vegan.

Birra Flea Blonde Ale? I think that's the name of it. Had one a little while ago and my Mrs said that's the only blonde I can have a fling with. Lekker beer.

A lot of people don't even classify cheese as vegetarian as many cheeses are made with rennet, an enzyme that comes from calves' stomach lining.

Softer cheeses and other dairy products don't contain rennet.

People really overcomplicate things ????

I am all for beer not being vegan-friendly...that way there's more for me. If Vanzweelism starts thinking beer is vegan I shudder to think what concoction he will claim next before having achieved anything...

Ok so I know it's one of the cheaper beers, but I'm quite enjoying Lion Lager these days.

Hansa is my go-to SAB beer. Around Jozi, Mad Giant 3pm, in a returnable bottle. Lovely light craft beer and after you've taken their returnables into account, just over R30 a beer.

Hansa used to be my go-to beer for quite some time, maybe because it was my Grandmother's favourite beer before she passed away - now, Lion Lager used to be my dad's go-to beer before HE passed away, so that's just one reason why I've moved from Hansa to Lion.

On a Friday any beer will do. I have unexpectedly taken a liking to Guinness lately after trying it. There is a reason or is still around after 200+ years. Not commonly available after a ride but goes down well.

We have an Irish pub ideally located on the road into Gonubie (one way in/out)

From there it's a nice 4km cool down home.

I call it my recovery shake.

It is a lekker beer, not that I buy it too often - mainly on St. Patrick's Day, then I'll get myself a 4 pack of Guinness.
