That's a proper bright tail light

I got one of those, they are very bright. you will be seen. if you have one. It runs off the same battery as my front light so its a bonus.

Serfas Thunderbolt. Has 4 modes, comes in different colors and is USB rechargeable and has very nice mounting options.

Chris Willemse Cycles and Cycle Lab Tyger Manor. I've seen them at both stores. But I'm pretty sure you can get them at just about any bike shop.

How will it help if you blind the motorist and he drives into you? Similar to these guys with their front lights on strobe function.....

I use strobe and helps a lot. People move out of the yellow lane if they drive in it.

And you sir/madam are no commuter if you worry about what cars think. I care about being seen on the roads as it seems that sperm cells degenerate after cell devision starts.

Flashing front light is the business. Riding along that avenue of trees towards Cape Point doing a reverse Argus we had a bunch coming towards us a good kilometre away. The flashing light in the group was more 'visible' than the 'constant' light. I guess that's why emergency vehicles have flashing lights. So I'd guess that a flashing light on the rear would work equally well. Will be looking out for the lights mentioned here. Great thread, thanks OP.

Zervas is the king .

What surprises me is the nr of cyclists who wear black clothing on the road . I know it is the fashion but wow not visible .

Even worse on runners, almost klapped a guy last night in North Riding, running into traffic on a narrow road with zero reflective or lit up anything and wearing all black. Deathwish much?!?!?!

These are great from a brightness point of view but their batteries only last about 30 min. Got mine at Solomons Woodmead

I have a 5 led red Cateye - used it for 4 years, no hassles. Superb product. On the random flash setting I used most, batteries lasted very very well. I think it is now called a "Rapid 5"
