The only thing I'd say is you'd need to make sure whoever "tests" needs to have reference for what it is they're testing.

No use getting the opinion of someone who's only ridden a handful of bikes and only 1 category of bikes. Even if he's a good rider.

Reference. Lots of it.

what gear are you testing???

Also one facet of riding style or terrain...

What we do not want.

"In conclusion, having test ridden the Santa Cruz Tallboy on all my usual routes in and around Gauteng, I can conclude that it is a terrible bike when compared to the Specialized Venge. Not only is it heavier the wide tires make a hell of a racket."

Or the reverse..

"Thus my review for the Specialized Venge concludes. It was absolutely fscking terrifying using this bike down normally tame trails, the brakes perform admirably but the tires were a mission to convert to tubeless, while not having enough sealant to properly seal more than 3 punctures. I much prefer my Santa Cruz.."

I will test ladies specific bikes. . And now I know what a nipple is so I'm all good to go..

Sadly I don't live near the city.. and will probably fall.. but I promise I always break the bikes fall.. ;)

No I'm just kidding.. I don't know enough to test.. but I think it's a great idea to get normal folks testing bikes.

I think majority of the people on the hub are too biased towards certain brands. If the test crew were varied and then tested the same bike and theirs views debated / put together for a combined review, it might work.

Hey guys,

We've been informally testing this recently. Having been doing more product reviews ourselves recently the idea has always been to move towards a more comprehensive review section with trusted reviews from a diverse team of experienced staff and user reviewers.

We've had a few users like Iwan Kemp, Hairy, Martin Hattingh, Batmanza and Capricorn comprehensively reviewing their own or loaned gear which we've featured.

In the forums we get dribs and drabs of product feedback in the various discussions, but it can be difficult and tedious to wade through the chatter to find specific products. And at the moment even our "featured" reviews are very hidden away (this will change very soon).

The plan is to create a dedicated reviews section with a combination of "expert" (I use the term lightly) and user reviews. The "experts" being any one of the test crew members we'd like to build up. This will be similar to VitalMTB's reviews section, but with a focus on locally available product.

I'd be keen to hear thoughts and see how we could formalise an Official Hubber Test Crew?

Matt

Would it not be awesome if we could get guys in each province to do testing so people can see how the product does on that provinces trails.

what gear are you testing???

At the moment I have a Merida One-Forty-B, Giant Trance 27.5 & Silverback Sprada alternating bike duties with my HDR and ST-R. With another bike on it's way.

Gear I have 3 helmets going through it's paces, 4 sets of AM / Enduro tires, two sets of flat pedals on the back of the Spike review I did, three backpacks, three handlebars & stem combos, 2 wheelsets and finally three dropper posts.

Nice problem to have. Oh, and two sets of brakes and 2 sets of 29er wheels. And bar ends.
