The "I hate Specialized" Bandwagon...... what's the deal?

I don't hate them but would rather buy something else at the moment. Don't like their 650b strategy and I personally don't like FSR.

That and my Stumpjumper FSR seemed to cost me R1000 per ride. I know a bike is a sum of parts from different manufacturers but still it leaves a sour taste in ones mouth.

You get cyclists with too much money who only buys Spez to show other cyclists they have too much money.

I thought that was SC riders?

I thought SC riders were actual riders who bought in to the Spaz thing and then found the brain was not all they were led to believe, they just borrowed a buddies SC for a parking lot test at the trail head and then they had a #LIGHTBULBMOMENT .... ever since then their riding has been far more #AWESOME on their new SC's?

But that is just the #WORDONTHESTREET

no time to read page 6-10 right now, so here is my opinion:

firstly, for all you okes out there that are biased towards Specialized bikes- get over your ego's and stop being ignorant, stereotyping, and generalizing.

I think they are beautiful bikes.
I also think you pay for the name.
I also know that once you had a Specialized you will probably stay with the brand.
My partner has a Spec and I have a Trek.
Both stunning bikes.

"Different strokes for different folks"

As a Specialized owner, I agree with this fully.

Specialized, for me, is as reliable as it is costly, and good as it is pretty, and as wonderful as it is hated.

Why would you potentially sacrifice your ride enjoyment to not ride a certain brand. Surely enjoyment is priority? Just interested.

I don't enjoy riding what everyone else has.

These 2 groups are manageable, loyal to the brand, work hard earn some nice money and buy some nice toys, nothing wrong with that.

Then there is the chinerello clan, there are no words to describe this person.

I ride an 26" Spez mtb. Do I still have any freinds here?? ****crickets****

I'll be your friend! I still rock a 26' dually.not Spez though...However I do use an S3 helmet which was life changing and have just bought a pair of their gloves which look very cool.not cause they Spez but cause of the design.

There seem to be two distinct types of people, those who like Spez and those who hate "Spaz" (as it's often referred to)

Perhaps there's a tiny percentage who are indifferent, but in general, I think,  the above statement applies.

and I want to know why?

this comment in another thread about Scalpel vs Epic got me wondering again

"Scalpel ..... whole bike is awesome, stick a good set of wheels on and ul have a 10 year plan bike, or u can jump on the spez train and dress urself from top to bottom in spez clothes and push ur bike up hills"

No other bike brand, that I can think of, creates this reaction from people.

Ok I only read the OP post.

Anything at the top (Price range, Most bought, Most popular, Most Branded) and the "2nd" from top will always attract controversy.

The I support club sometimes like to defend the brand as they use the brand to advertise their status or you defend your choices in life. So you stick a brand name on every part of your body, bike and FB page then you feel compelled to defend "your" teritory. THIS DO NOT INCLUDE EVERYONE some people just buy something for how it makes them feel or just because they like it and some buy it because they THINK it will improve their capability. Sometimes these products can actually hamper your capability as you differ from the pro who the bike was designed for.

No the I hate club:::::: Well nr1 reason is usually the cost and nr2 is you so desperately want to advertise that you are unique that you get verbal about it. For me mostly it is also the money. Not that I can not afford it but the fact that I think the products do not match the price I sincerely feel we are being overcharged to sustain marketing and pro racing campaigns.

The world is free and if you want to support your brand with loyalty and hope your social status is improved by what is printed on your sleeve then so be it. If you like criticizing something just remember that some of these products were engineered to look good and give you comfort, pleasure and improved experience so there is costs in improving things from 95% to 98% and it is usually very high. My question is is 3% or less worth it and can you actually tap in that 3% because if you have it it does not mean you can use it. If a guy in a R10K bike passes you on your R50K bike then spending R100K on a new bike is not the solution.

Why I also prefer racing in my old bike is because in a race I have no mercy and I pay the bills myself not a sponsor.

this argument goes for

iOS vs Windows

iPhone vs Galaxy

Prada vs Gucci

Mercedes vs BMW

WP vs Bulls

Manchester vs Liverpool

ANC vs DA

and the more the brands rival each other the more verbal the supporters get

Plenty wrong with the ventilation, I had a Giro Ionus, went to the Prevail, threw the Prevail in the dustbin where is belongs, both a Giro Aeon, never been happier

You're thinking of the Evade. Nothing wrong with the Prevail's ventilation.
