I would like to know how did she end up in J

Looks like she did a 9:06 in 2014 - 21706/21721 - a finish pushes you up a couple of batches...

Do at least 2 HIIT sessions during the week- for example 10x 30sec sprints (100% effort) and the other 4x4 min intervals (90% effort).

start increase your distance over weekends- every Saturday 5 km further.

Important thing is to increase the work load/ intensity with every session and after every 2 or 3 weeks, have a week rest (1x low intensity session and 1 shorter relaxed ride)

Okay Cool, So basically progressive overload...

I guess (once I have recovered, which might only be somewhere mid december   ) I will do some of the 60km races, I see they have a few of them at Stonehaven on Vaal during the year.. and also one at Smoking Wheels In Alberton in January.

BTW, which races count as seeding for the Cycle Challenge, would like to get an earlier start next year? Someone have a list, Ive looked on Google but could not really find a list..

Anything timed by racetec except Dome2Dome!

I wonder if bolt-on speed bumps would work? Bolted on for the year and removed for the race?

How about if the current route was reversed? I suppose you wouldn't want the finish to run down Pooks Hill for a fast left hand turn?

The plan was to remove the bolted on speed humps but they were epoxied in and could not easily be removed. The fix was to use temporary tar to cover these. But they had to be restored by today.

On the route backwards - the issue is to get the highway open as soon as possible

I don't know everyone, but Ride For Sight, Emperors, Sondela Classic, Race For Victory, Dome 2 Dome and Sattelite Classic will definitely be seeded races. Not so sure about Fast One and of course there will be some in other provinces as well like Amashova and CTCT (Argus)

The Fast One (end January) and R4S (Feb) might be to soon for you, but try for Emperors- all these races are flat compared to 94.7

Plenty of groups riding in the Alberton area, join them and you will definitely be ready for next year.

Thanx for that.. Most of these races I see have a shorter route also. Will do a few of them.

I really have alot of respect for the people doing it in under 3hrs.. And I think even more for the 7/8/9 hour people.

if you in the Alberton or surrounding areas do yourself a favour.....

http://germistonwheelers.co.za/ the club that cares :)

Club caters for all levels of riders from beginners to advanced, they even have a 'racing team/s' that are willing to help and teach riders. There was a nice group that started in D in red kit that were helping riders to achieve PB's

Didn't even realise they were already bolt-on speed humps! But hopefully it means they can be removed for next year, if the epoxy can be overcome.

And a good point about the highway.... the benefit of being an armchair 'critic'.

Thanks for your input, Rob22, and your work on the day!

Something off topic but related to the event:

Picked up this small container in the start chute with the following contents:

3x Myprodol

3x Diclofenac

.....now the medical professionals can comment on these substances and their use before and during events.....

.....chemical performance enhancement straight into an emergency....

IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE PAIN.......STOP!!!.....or even better, don't ride and wait for next time.

Diclofenac (Voltaren) taken during/after a race if hydration status is suspect, is a sure recipe for acute renal failure. Happened to a well-known tv presenter (a part-time dr...) a few years ago during a race. Edit: not sure if he took diclofenac but it was a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.

GaryvdM - nice to meet you. You caught me by surprise as I still had a lot on my mind (second lap, change shirts, eat, drink, refill bottles, etc.).

Lap 1 had a similar goal as I-Team, where we had to get members back to the finish as quickly as possible, as we had another lap to complete with our charity for the day (Team NSPCA). After mutual consent, we all dropped back to group D, as 5 of the 13 in our "red" train we seeded in group D. Any further back and we'd waste the goal of riding for Team NSPCA.

We were almost at the back of group D at the start, so no chance of sitting in the group and getting a free ride on the M1. After getting everyone over Pooks hill, one dropped off (his car broke down on the way in, so it was playing on his mind). The next person fell off at the Wilds (we later found out our pace was a tad bit quicker than A's time last year) with the last person fell off shortly afterwards.

We got to the 20-to-go point (top of Witkoppen) in 2:12, which was 5 minutes faster than the time I confirmed for the I-team, so I knew the 4 guys in our group that hadn't broken the sub-3 mark would be doing so today IF they could hang in there. By the time we got to Steyn City, the group had broken up and it was each man for himself. Two went ahead with the strongest of our team, while I waited for one and the other was out of sight. 2:48 - 2:55 was the time split between fastest and slowest in our group, and everyone was happy.

A short break (of about 40 mins) and we were heading out for lap 2.

Heading out for a second lap with 6 others from the club, I initially thought it was a bad idea, as the wind had died down for the first 10-15 minutes of the ride and it was 36oC on the GPS. But by the first descent the wind was actually a blessing - keeping me from thinking about the heat.

the "crazy seven" as we were described by club members at the hospitality area.

It's been 4 years since I last rode in a charity group, so I've forgotten just how busy it is, and potentially dangerous it can be when descending quickly with lots of slow riders that also tend to drift sideways.

We didn't do a full second lap, instead cutting short at Glenhove, and joining the route at Jellicoe (just behind our club members riding in the NSPCA charity group). An hour head start may sound easy to catch, but we weren't riding at race pace on that second lap - at least not uphill.

As for the "choco-lats please" on the side of the road - someone in our group punctured coming down Malibongwe, so a few of us waiting at the bottom of the descent and handed over what bars we had left in our pockets. As much as I don't like fueling the fire (begging), I actually felt for them and it's a pity we couldn't give them something more substantial.

Steyn City, the second time was less torturous, probably because I knew I didn't have to get anyone to the finish in under a certain time. Managed to push a young girl who was struggling to change onto her small (triple) chain ring. I showed her how to adjust the barrel adjuster, but I think someone may have set the limit screws to prevent it from moving to the small ring. Anyway, the push was appreciated and I was happy that she only didn't have far to go.

We eventually lined everyone up to cross the line in a group, and my phone wouldn't unlock so I missed the final photo crossing the line. My goPro was also facing the barriers, so no photo from there either, but someone (from the club) knew we were coming and they took this photo.

And last but not least, one of our neighbours at the gazebo hospitality forgot that the event was this weekend...

We have just had (like I guess most of Jhb), a mother of a storm with hail.

Can you imagine if this happened yesterday with so many still on the route.
