I think Gunn-Rita is too used to being treated like a queen and ushered to the front of the group.

If they were fighting for top 3 they should have got to the start early enough to start near the front - they would have only had to do it once as the time gaps were fairly small after the prologue. Small enough to use one stage to get into the top 3.

A total of 739 kilometres, a good 16.000 vertical metres, most of it on gravel roads and single-track, in addition to the extreme heat practically every day, for 8 consecutive days, is not for wusses.

Is she admitting to be a wuss, because she did not complete all of this

Where did the winners start after their penalty?

according to the blog they should have started in group B, and them still to finish 20th on the day!!! that is special. if they started higher then there is something strange going on.

I do think that there is a point to be made. it would be nice to see the top 5 or so teams start in the same group, this will give a clearer view of who is out front.

Good valid point made by gunn-Rita.

The event brings people out to race but only the leading ladies get the advantage of having elite men pull them clear of their opposition.

Not particularly fair is it?

That's exactly what I want to know...

but surely its like a seeding,,,,you are in front for a reason, you get the advantage because you worked harder, rode faster,GOT SHIIT DONE

I hope that she took this up with the race organisers as well as posting on her blog.

It does make sense to have more than 3 ladies teams up front, it is in fact better said that only having three ladies teams in the first batch really limits the ladies race.

However she does say she was not in it to place high up the standings and had problems on the prologue. So its all a rather redundant argument, if you are not racing it then be content to ride based on your seeding.

A valid point and possibly a future consideration but not relevant to this race as the rules are clear and you need to ride within them. Very simply they needed to get to their start really early to ensure they were in the front of the bunch. Saying they couldn't get there early enough because it was cold is more than a little pathetic.

good suggestions, worth looking into but the article is written with a DASH of sour grapes

could have,

should have ,

didnt

as many of the threads like this normally end,,,,if you want the advantage of being in front

GET THERE, DO WHATS NEEDED or dont moan about the slower riders in front of you

yes she is a machine and she will take us all

dips runs

I wouldn`t mind being taken by her .....at all! :whistling:

A fair enough comment by her, not like she doesnt have oodles of racing experience; problem is this; the first ladies teams come in after the first 30 to 50 mens teams have come in. So saying the 200 odd riders infront of you is a issue, is being a bit disingenious; they pretty much all finish ahead of you anyway.

300m at 30km/h is 36 seconds; kind of hard to believe that Arianne & co made up more than an hour in stage 3 because of their 30 second down the road position.

or they were simply superior, starting right on their wheel wouldnt have made any difference.

someone is going to feel hard done by, group the top ten womens teams in A batch and you have 40 male teams queing behind them to pass...
