Mats Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Struggled to get going again. Lots of work stress = Not in the mood to run. And weekend long run fell through as I had to pick up my new bike. But hopefully this week will go better. Going to Ngwenya logde on Friday. How safe is it to run alone on that road towards Komatipoort?

And I run 4h30 in the mornings. Not really bothered by the cold, but this Sunday it was one of those days where the cold just goes into your bones. shaper, CobusV and Jase619 3

Jewbacca Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 personally I try average 30km/3runs a week all year, never go up to much more than 60km/week. Without having the weeks of zero running after big events you are always building from a bigger and bigger base rather than starting back from the beginning because after a big race you sat on the couch for 2 months avoiding winter. As for the cold, if you look for an excuse you will find one...What do you know Dave?! 30km a week is for ants! I try to maintain a similar pattern but 30km is 2 mountain runs for me. People always ask me what I'm training for and I just shrug and say life. If I don't run/cycle/surf/exercise for 2 days in a row the missus actually kicks me out of the house till I do something. Apparently I become grumpy and 'impossible'... pfffft Anyone else do the Bastille day 50km on the weekend? It was awesome and definitely a race people should try to get to. River crossings, some decent climbing, off piste rough cut trails and traverses... It ticks all the boxes for an awesome day out Paddaman, Andrew Steer and ScottCM 3

However, Rhodes next year is on 29 June, so yes maybe there is a chance to recover (2 weeks) and head out again for Bastille day. Just have to book plan tickets early.... Jewbacca 1

I was convinced by my wife it is moer cold outside and we must start with our thermals - it was only 0degrees. I ran the last 33km of day one with the thermals tied around my waist. So nowdays I'm very mindful of what to wear and where I'm goint to store it when I take it off. A windbreaker or light jacket is easy. But full thermals is another story - probably won't fit in my current 8L pack. I'm also very mindful of whom I take advise from.

Was in the same valley this weekend on a much shorter run - and pretty glad I did not have to do river crossings on Sat morning! Jewbacca 1

After a decent run last week Saturday and a hard bike session on the trainer the following day, I went for another run on Monday evening. My right knee started feeling a bit sensitive on the Monday evening, but I still went for a 11km speed session early Tuesday morning. After a quick shower and getting dressed, I could hardly walk from the pain, and after reading over the following days I self diagnosed myself with runner's knee (PFPS). My injury literally fits all the descriptions I could find, and it manifested over night - obviously it has been coming on for a while I guess. I took the Wednesday and Thursday off from running and cycling, and just went swimming, which really eased the pain almost immediately. Went for a run on Friday and felt no pain, but on Saturday morning I couldn't run more than 20m again. Decided to take 5 days off, and try again on Thursday. Is there anyone who has any advice wrt to treating this? I've been doing squads to strengthen my quads (starts to hurt my knee eventually), and I'm following a stretching routine daily. Anything else, except rest?PS. I went to a specialised shoe shop, and got my running style analysed before buying shoes - I'm 99.9% sure they are the right shoes for me, and I've been running in them for a couple of months now.
