Shoe advice needed:... I chose these after due to excellent grip, supreme comfy feel under foot and they feel very similar in fit and while running to Nike Pegasus (go to road shoes)...

My toes do not damage my road shoes at all, I suspect the damage shown is due to abrasive contact with stuff on the outside...

Looks like you need a shoe with an extended rand around the toe box, suggest you look at the ASICS Fuji variations, also Inov8 make very grippy, robust shoes.

Whatever suggestions you get here, it will be up to you to verify fit, grip & match to your running mechanics.

My trail runners (Saucony Xodus Iso's) are awesome, but do not handle the Western Cape terrain well. This is my first pair of trail shoes, I ran trail with my road shoes, till it felt as though lack of grip was slowin me down. I chose these after due to excellent grip, supreme comfy feel under foot and they feel very similar in fit and while running to Nike Pegasus (go to road shoes).

My toes do not damage my road shoes at all, I suspect the damage shown is due to abrasive contact with stuff on the outside. Shoes has done 250km. Im used to getting 700km from a pair of shoes, and trail shoes are more expensive than road ones. Where to from here?

(I do about 40km per week, mostly on tar, and use the trail shoes mainly for trail events)

Shoulda cut those nails

I did the Vitality run series at Old Eds (10Km) today. Set a new 10Km PB, barely, by 30s, but definitely didn’t feel strong. Let’s see what happens, in 2 weeks, at the Wanderers event.

Did the Old Eds 21km, there a few hills there which sap the legs.  At least you are progressing in the right direction and your upcoming 21km is much flatter..... As there is a sweep stake prediction going, I recon you will do a 1:57hr.... no pressure ;)

So last weekend we smashed the 165km Cyanosis A1 Adventure race, the team managed to sneak a 3rd place after some good nav and a time trial last 30km cycle.

This weekend we went up to Wolkberg for the Trail run and to see if there was anything left in the legs at all.

For those of you who have never done it, Wolkberg is an awesome trail run, you stay in the school Hostels for the 2 nights, all food is included and the trail running is spectacular.

40km on day one with 900m elevation gain in the first 15km up and over the iron crown before flowing trails back to the school through the forests.

25km day 2 through some epic forests and gardens.

Value for money you actually can't beat this event.

Anyway day one was rough, took forever to find my legs and then lost them in the last 4km again. Day 2 was just damage control the whole way. Managed to sneak 6th overall barely...

I know this probably belongs in the classifieds but thought I'd give the folks in this thread a first option before putting it up there tomorrow:

Selling the ultimate resistance trainer for running. Features:
• Increases power running up hills and replicates altitude training due to having to answer profound questions like "Why is that man wearing a blue shirt?" when you are completely out of breath.

• Includes a necessary customisation of a bottle/coffee cup holder.

• Rain hood to protect the child from your sweat.

• Child buckles in safely to avoid being dislodged when attempting bunny hops.

• Additional cold weather sleeping bag because if you have to be up that early, the little freeloader may as well join you.

• Wheel size is not 29" unfortunately

That's weird... I also run in WC and have been using Saucony Peregrines (old 5's!) for over 850 k's now. Still going strong and I'm perfectly happy with them.

Used my 8's for the first time the weekend and they felt just as awesome.  Not sure what the diffs are between Peregrine and Xodus.

Need some advise: -

My right foot is really sore. The pain is under the foot in the arch area. However, by morning time, the pain has moved to the top of the foot above the arch as well. There are times that the pain will spread to the base of my toes (mostly bog toe) as well. It become a bit more bearable walking around during the day but does not go away.

What could this be? (My husband seems to think it has something to do with the tendon under my foot)

Have a look to see if this is what you are experiencing.

Sjoe, but this thread is rather quiet these past few days. How is everyone's training coming along?

My wife and I dit our first "weekend" running last week, doing the Wierie race. It is only 1km from home, so just a quick walk to the start with no cursing of other motorist involved. I ended up doing my fastest 10km in three years. My wife did a 2min PB...

We also went for for a trail run last week Thursday at Wolwespruit, which I really enjoyed. Nice flowing singletrack with nothing overly technical. Once summer is in full swing I might start doing the Tuesday timetrails there.
