Anyone else also encounter phantom injuries during taper and/or race week?

8 days to go.

Yeah I've experienced it ,but only for an A race.

Wifey and I ran the MUT Marathon last weekend. 43.5km 2100m very

What a lekker experience. I wasn’t as fit  as last year, but spent way more time on the gym doing strength work as part of rehab and building on that. Getting old is overrated. Wife has a solid base, but isn’t very proficient technically. However our friends reassured that she’ll be right, and I knew I’d run through deep and dark places to keep up with her in short shorts. I’m a simple man. Our goal was 8hrs.

we ran together, and paced each other well, it helps that we had honest conversations beforehand and agreed to take it at the slower partners pace.  For the first 30kms I was the faster partner, and took about 30 photos and vids of her and the landscapes. After the 2nd waterpoint (28m) her umpteenth gel kicked in and she took the lead. Last year the last climb was a death march for me, this year we jogged where we could and hiked the tech bits. At the last waterpoint I downed 400ml coke and put some in a bottle as well, and she put the hammer down and told me to “suck it up cupcake” to the end. We finished at 7:24. Very chuffed with that.

We had great weather, the Outeniqua Mountains is magic. I want to go live  in George.

I reckon the strength work helped me a lot. I felt fine (other than tired) the next day and was shuffling along on Monday again.

Next up is CT marathon in Oct, Wifiey wants to do a 3:30 and I want to do 4hrs. Technically this will be my first real marathon, although I’ve done a bunch of trail marathons.

But first, some lekker MTB is in order .  Riding is still the first outdoor love.

My wife will be at the starting line for her first down run, second comrades. Where would be the best spot to meet them and still have enough time to get to the finish line to watch them finish.

how many times do you want to meet? you could probably do twice, but I'm not sure of traffic coming into Durbs (must surely be better than into PMB)

Once should be fine, I do not want a repeat of the up run where she ended up at the finish before I reached PMB.
