Salomonsports.co.za has some of the ADV12 vests at 2600. Older colours but the same vest essentially.

That's a good deal because apparently people aren't quite as happy with the new model as they were with the old one.

@peepeekaitjie Ignore my decathlon advice unless you can go instore - i just placed an order here. go have a looksee as there is a 50% sale - https://www.adventureinc.co.za/product-category/osprey/hydration-packs/

can backup that the ABG is incredible. any issues and they sort it out pronto, or replace. incredible.

got the Dyna6 at R1250 for wifey. (comes with a bladder too which retails at R1050).

passed the test up the mountain, just wants to find a better way to stash the bite valve when running. highly recommended.

doing puffer next weekend, and then noticed that one of the sponsors is a local manufacturer

https://rockrabbitsports.co.za/product-category/hydration-packs/

haven't used them but they do look very well thought out - they even added a feature for bus drivers to hold the pole! and you're putting food on the table for someone down the road.

Wonder what the cost would be for an event like this, I'm guessing nothing less than R20 000

Their Jordan event which is 220k over 5 days is £2095, so would estimate closer to double the R20k

Similar concept to the original Cape Odyssey - which I think only did 2 years despite coming with the 'Epic' logo and team.

I struggle to see events like this being sustainable. There are only a handful of idiots (said in a kind way) who would be willing to pay that much to do it once, maybe 5 to 12 of them will pay to do it more than once and there aren't suddenly 100 more idiots each year who suddenly want to run that far on consecutive days to fill the roster.

But ja, good luck to them.

Seeing as a 1 day Ironman event is now nudging 10 clip, 20 for this is not unreasonable. Probably a lil short of the actual number.

then flights and ancillaries, I’m looking at 3 grand in pounds. Which would be tempting if coupled with a bit of a holiday.

I think the guestimate was 'nothing less than 20k - more like 40k'
It's also really hard to run 40-50km for 6 days in a row.

I did the 2 versions of Odyssey and I've done my fair share of 100/200 milers and longer events. This multi day running format is really tough. Tougher than a non stop race and a very different kettle of fish to a cycling race. The copy and paste formula across the two disciplines has never worked in the past for more than a 3 day race of less daily mileage.

I think KAEM packed it in last year due to it running at a loss. That event had legacy and international renown.

But as I said, hopefully they prove me wrong and can keep the event alive for more than a handful of years

For UTCT 100 miler I found a training program off Training Peaks, on the days where there were key workouts of either intervals (Tuesdays) & hill climbing (Thursdays) completed in the morning, it required me to do an additional recovery run in the evening. I tried this once or twice & found it wasn't sustainable for me as my legs was just not recovered in time. In hindsight I realize now that the program was designed to condition me for long hours on the legs, I ended up completing the nearly 170kms in 39 hours. If I ever sign up for a 100 miler or multi day stage running race I'll stick to the program and do those back 2 back training runs on the same day.

Marathon des sables is around 4000 euros plus travel etc. they run a shorter event which is about 2500 euro.

kinda agree. Probably closer to 40 grand zar if not more.

a recent 2 day event here which included a tent overnight was 280 quid.

Rational move, time to let the adults drive the vehicle.

big question is can they get entries at capacity in 2026.

Race date 11/12 april is about six weeks before CT marathon which people are gogga eyes all over.

Seems like the same date as the previous years, for Two Oceans.  So should attract the same crowd.

Hope they can bounce back from this years bad press ....
