Hacc Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Hacc how was Sarens and did you sort out your nausea? The good news is I didn't feel nauseous on Saturday and Sunday! I don't want to get too optimistic too soon. I went to the doctor on Friday and told her that Lenamet (100mg - S2) seems to be helping. She then prescribed Trustan 40 mg which is used to treat stomach ulcers and acid reflux. You drink it on an empty stomach. On Saturday morning we went for a 15km run. I drank the medication and felt great. No nausea. I was skeptical as it was a flattish route and we took it very easy before Sarens. Yesterday I drank it again and felt great, didn't feel sick at all. My legs were dead tired the last 3 kilometers... I also took a gel around 12km, and it didn't upset my stomach. Much easier to swallow. I really enjoyed Sarens. It was my first time doing the race. I prefer rolling hills and the route had lots of trees. I am not close to my normal pace but I still enjoyed it. Now to mentally prepare myself for ODD.... shaper, Stretch, Andrew Steer and 3 others 6

fanievb Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 A marathon for me starts at 28km... That is when you start running with your mind. Comrades it starts at 70km. If you run a comfortable 21km and you have done a 25km training run I think you are ready for a marathon. I've done 3 Masters (Sep 2015) it was hot, i started way to fast and hated every km from about the 18km markBuffs (Feb 2016) it was windy, headed into the wind for the first 21km legs got nuked at about 23kmTwo Oceans (Apr 2016) no one told me the hills start as you turn in Fish Hoek, awesome vibe, but from HB to the finish was torture
ADe Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 My training has come to a complete stop. My ITB is acting up and I have been instructed to not run for the next 2 weeks. This after taking off last week as well. I am worried I am not going to have enough time to get up to fitness for 2 Oceans. If I can run again in two weeks' time, that leaves me 3 weeks to Oceans, having lost a month of training. Is this still doable or am I better of writing Oceans off and focusing on getting the ITBS healed?
Andrew Steer Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 My afkak mark seems to be around 37km's at the moment... both at Johnsons Crane and Vaal it was when I needed to start forcing in some walks to keep things ticking over at a reasonable pace. I'm happy with that as it used to be under 30km's, but as I'm getting more comfortable with the longer runs I am managing to push that number higher. Om die Dam this weekend will be another test to see how the legs hold out... Comrades, I'll slow down even more to pace it better in light of the long journey - you need to keep those legs together for as long as possible. Bruce Fordyce uses an analogy of a pack of cards to illustrate managing your reserves - you basically hold that pack as tight as possible, don't waste any cards, you only have 52 to make your journey... make sure each one comes out the pack as slowly as possible, utilize everyone to it's max, don't waste any on surges or running fasting than you can handle for long distances - as once you have used up all the cards, you can't put them back in the pack - they are gone, and you are done Well, something along those lines at least - it's probably better to see in person Mr Winter, ScottCM, Lexx and 1 other 4

I started to believe it is in my head and I am imagining the nausea problem (as some people actually told me it is my head). The final test will be ODD... I haven't run a marathon as yet, this year... so Saturday is going to be tough. I am nervous and excited about it. Looking forward to not feeling crap while running. Lexx and Andrew Steer 2

REST the next two weeks and then you make a call.How many kms have you trained from January to now and what was your longest run?
