Hey Lexx

I run in both the Adios Boston (about 220g) and the Adizero Boston (around 240g).

The Adios is lighter/Faster and more responsive but I battle to get 400kms out of them even though they say they both have the same Continental sole (In my opinion they don't)…

The Adizero Boston's  are my main go to training shoe and I have been through at least 10 pairs in the last 4 years... Those I now get closer to 700kms on before I start feeling they are a bit flat (then I downgrade them to my Gym/Cross training shoes and then eventually to my action cricket shoes)

I've always raced though up to the Marathon distance in the Brooks T7s until they discontinued them last year... I tried the Replacement Brooks Hyperion for CT Marathon last year but they are just not the same.

However in Feb I got my hands on a pair of Nike Vaporfly 4%'s and I'm battling to look past them as Racing shoe... Only problem is they are hard to find and super expensive.. BUT they are THAT good.

The Nike new cushioned sole is just so comfortable I'm now also looking at the React as a possible new training/tempo option..

Hope that helps a little.. But Yes you get into a Lighter more responsive shoe to increase the pace, stride length and spm..

Thanks  Ferret,

That helps a lot. I'm actually excited to start running/racing in lighter shoes.

I'm also keen to get back on my bike again, to commute to work. With the ever increasing fuel price it is a much better option. And with my knee giving me trouble again I can do with some low load-bearing exercise as an alternative.

I see Nike and Adidas being discussed here, but how about the other brands? The reason why I ask is, I'm consedering the Saucony Freedom... What about the Saucony Kinvara?

I use the Nike Terra Kiger for trail and it is a fantastic shoe, but the Terra Kiger seems like a completely different shoe compared the usual Nike shoes.

I had a pair of Saucony Kinvara's.

The were very nice in the beginning but started going down at about 400km, I continued using them until 730km but they are now my fishing shoes as they are no good for anything else.

I am now running in the Freedoms. It so far so good. Overall a much better shoe for me than the Kinvara.

As for durability I am now only on 90km.

I'm by no means fast(at least not yet) but I train and 'race' in Nike Free Runs. The pair (I used at OMTOM Ultra this year) that I am going to use for my Comrades qualifier(September) and the Big C next year weighs 255g and is a model I bought in 2010. My training pairs (2016 model) are 240g. I wish I had more of the 2010 model. I would change to another shoe but I wouldn't change to another brand. Too much joy using Nike :-)

I weigh max 65kg so I think that helps in the longevity of my shoes, easily over 1000km per pair.

Same story as Carpet. I used to have Kinvara's. The salesman was dumbfounded when I bought my Freedom's and told him I got 800-odd k's (from memory) on the Kinvaras. Most he's ever heard of was 600. (Admittedly the last was just wringing the life out of it on short mileage-eating runs!)

I am combining Freedom (freakin' lovely shoe!)  with NB Fresh Foam Zante (which I use more for day-to-day training now). I still have to take any of them on any longer than 30 k run, so do not know whether they'll be suitable for something like Oceans (or even a marathon). Used to run marathon+ distances in Saucony Triumph ISO's. But they are now... what's a polite term for moertoe?!... worthy of being fishing shoes for somebody who fishes.

Zante's was an interesting story. Bought the original version at yellow ticket for a ridiculous price. Thought it was worth the risk. And just got myself a pair of V4 on the NB sale beacause I liked them so much. Have not taken the V4 for an outing yet, but they feel like slippers!

Take note, these comments come from a non-pro gently jogging along and not breaking any land speed or distance records!

As discussing shoes, Asics all the way for me.  Currently:

Gel Hyper Tri 3 (190g) for speed work and 10km races (Now discontinued, replacement is the Tartherzeal 6)

Noosa FF2 (238g) for Triathlons, 21 and 42kms races

DynaFlyte 2 (252g) for LSD runs

Although I am trying a pair of On Cloudsurfer (285g) and really struggling to get to like them.

Only 200kms on the Tri 3's so far but seem to be holding up well.  The Noosa's are on 352kms and plenty of kms left, with the DynaFlyte's on 877kms and will be changed at 900kms as can feel their on their last legs.  Will probably replace with another pair of DynaFlyte's

Is plantar fasciitis curable or am I just bluffing myself?

Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

I had a severe case a couple of years ago. IIRC I eventually stopped running for about 9 months. It took around 18 months to get to a point where it was completely gone.

What treatment have you had? Time frames? How did you injure it?

I injured it trail running in a new pair good-for-nothing Salomon speedcross shoes 18 months ago.

I'm wearing custom orthotics, that helps a bit.

I'm strething, and rolling my posterior muscles as they are super short. I scrape, massage and roll the plantar. I sleep in a night splint.

I'm evading my GP as he suggest I stop running for good.

I guess I could loose a few pounds also, but thats just too hard..

Any black magic I could still try?

My experience is that plantar fasciitis is curable, but I had to stop running completely for a while. I forget how long (happened in 1995), probably 8-12 weeks. I started swimming & cycling and was racing triathlons within 6 months.

Treated it with rest, physio & cross-training.
