Im just back from an amazing experience...for those that are interested, Vic Falls Marathon is worth every cent!  I was going to attempt my first marathon but sadly with my knee injury dropped to the 21km and just went "touring".  The vibe is incredible and the people so friendly, the elephants werent as charmed but luckily they were chased away by the rangers...we were just warned to "keep your eyes open for lion". Well organised, great sponsorship.  Only negative is the final 2k's... the 21km, 42km, 7,5 fun run and traffic all meet on the main road for about a km then turn into the finish...but hey, its Africa...;-)

This marathon is on my bucket list. Did you stay on Zambia's side or Zimbabwe? How much did the weekend cost you? Is it more off-road running?

Sorry for the late reply:

It is tar road running, small section of dirt road, maybe 3km...

We stayed on the Zim side, in a hotel called "The Kingdom" which is right over the road from the start.  The logistics of getting across from Zambia, and the cost, is not worth it.  We will do the same if we go again and then move across to Zambia after the race.

Its expensive!! The rand/dollar is hard to swallow! I dont know the exact cost because it was a surprise for my birthday from my husband but he said the 5 days, including flights and the race was around R35 000 and then we had to pay for food.  If you look on facebook under Econet Vic Falls Marathon, they have posted the dates for next year and then perhaps check the prices for "The Kingdom".  One day only have a travel Tuesday and the price is usually very much reduced.

But having said this...it was the best experience and you just book now and pay it off! We had a package deal with Wild Frontiers and they collected us from the airport, got our race packs together, collected us for the sundowner cruise and paid for all the drinks and snacks and then dropped us back at the airport. Best money we spent was $5 for a fun run T-shirt to bring back for the kids  ^_^  any other souvenier was going to cost big $$$.

I also don't think its something that would appeal to families with young kids, not much for them to do.

Anyone running Northgate 10km on Sunday?

For those that have pre-entered, you can come and collect your shirt and entry on Saturday at Northgate, entrance 4 from 9 am to 3 pm or the morning of the race.

It is our annual race, so I will be working. Going to be a chilly one! Thank goodness for OBS  :whistling:
