Stretch Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 The 235s battery life concerns me. On the Suunto I get 12h easy in GPS mode. Looking at something similar. For Comrades battery life is probably the bmost important feature in a watch. My 230 lasts just fine for comrades Mudsimus 1
Frosty Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I need some suggestions on a new running watch. I'm currently using the Suunto Ambit3. It's a great watch, but I'm looking for something with integrated heart rate. Not interested in a Fenix, I prefer not to run with a brick on my arm. Currently looking at the Suunto, Spartan and Polar Vantage M. Any other options?Running only? Garmin 235Cycling included? Garmin 735XT or one better... the 935. I have the 735XT and hardly notice it on my arm. I’ve used it with the optical HR for 2.5 years, and provided feedback on the comparison between optical and the strap.
Hacc Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 The JC comes straight past my neighbour hood. I'm always amazed that at 6:30 on a sunday morning there are motorists that are in such a hurry to get where they are going that they have to hoot and shout at the marshals. But what also gets me is that the organisers do very little to alert the public that there will be road closures. One would think some street poles signs or something, but nadda. Only reason I knew it was going to happen is a facebook friend of mine runs it. dont get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the road closure itself, only the fact that it was not communicated.I will forward your comment to the race organizer. I am good friends with him. I agree that the public should get a notification that there will be a race in the area long before the race. There were a couple of very unhappy motorists yesterday and the marshals had their hands full. I even saw a security company at some of the intersections.Â
Allrounder Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Providing you don't roll any ankles you tend to recover much quicker from long trail runs compared to road (in my limited experience.)What does this mean?Â
Allrounder Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Anyone tried the Wietse runs at Willowbridge on Saturday mornings?Â
Andrew Steer Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 How'd everyone go at Johnsons? Weather was pretty much perfect and I enjoyed the route tweaks... ran a solid and comfy 1:56 for the half. Part of me kind of wished I was marathon ready in light of the conditions, but hopefully I'll score some good weather at Vaal for my qualifier... candz1 and Hacc 2
HenryS Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Anyone tried the Wietse runs at Willowbridge on Saturday mornings?  Yes.They are excellent training runs; as long or short as you want them to be.

You could hear the abuse the marshals were taking from very early in the morning. I was not there from 7am for most of the morning, but I can only imagine how much more heated things got as traffic in the area increased.
Ronniek Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Anyone tried the Wietse runs at Willowbridge on Saturday mornings? They definitely worth the R30 contribution. The 30km run is excellent with those climbs in the last 10. Also the 40,54 and 50 km runs are great for Comrades prep. Allrounder 1

Jackes Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I need some suggestions on a new running watch.   Garmin Forerunner My 230 lasts just fine for comrades So does mine and you guys are way quicker than I am!  The 235 does 13 hours now.  Otherwise 735 or 935.  Look for specials on the 735 as well as it is on it's way out it seems. May I be nasty and mention that I can get a 735 for R4,199 and a 935 for R5,519 if I wanted it? Â
Chris_ Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Cool article in the weekends FT on ladies kicking ass in the (very) long endurance running events. It has that great pic of Sophie Power breastfeeding during UTMB on the front page. Barry Stuart 1
Allrounder Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 most of you know of the challenges that we face with my wife to get bikes and to get her up to any form of speed.  She went on run with me the other day...... I don't want to run anymore... The first 500 meters or so i was like come now we don't have the whole day. Then she was warmed up I guess. I barely kept up...... Got home I saw stars and she is like o that was nice. I feel so energized.  candz1 1
