Barry Stuart Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Thanks Lexx, as everyone has said above Deloitte is actually a super race on a scenic challenging course. Plenty Climbs but also plenty downhills to recover in between. One of my favourite races in Gauteng. I "led, paced" a sub3 Bus for a few guys from our Club to get their A seedings.. We started with 7 of us and attracted a bigger group of closer to 15 during the first lap all on the same mission. Unfortunately, even though we only ran 88.42 first lap it exploded the 2nd lap leaving only 3 of us to finish in 2h56, and that was with a fast finish when I knew that the 3 that were left were strong enough for a faster last 4kms. Was pretty hot out there the last hour... felt very sorry for the guys out there for 5-6hrs. Well done to everyone else, and to Barry and Jess for PMB. Barry, I believe you are going to join our Wednesday morning group soon. Fun day out, just another tick on the road to Oceans and Comrades.. Nice work on Deloitte, Ferret. You seem to be the go-to man for people wanting to run a sub 3 now! I'd love to join you guys for one of your Anvils. To be honest, I find the thought of running with you lot even more intimidating than the thought of a race. Ferret69 1
Fruity Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Well done to Barry and Jess...!!! Jess came in 2nd at the PMB42 in an amazing time of 3h15.59, Barry came "jogging" past us at the finish at 3h00 looking like he was just going for a warm up. Truly impressive guys!! The Mrs and I wanted to do the Maritzburg City Marathon, although I probably would've done the 10km, and she probably would've done the 21.1km, seeing as she has done a few half marathons before. Our daughter wasn't feeling too well that morning, so it was a mad rush to casualty at one of the local hospitals on Sunday morning so that she could see a GP, so we would've missed out on PMB anyway. Next year, I'll be doing the PMB half marathon, although there are a few other runs coming up throughout the year. Barry Stuart 1

Dirkitech Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Running cyclists and just runners, may I get your votes or opinions between the following shoes for a mix of shorter sprints and long distance running please?I've looked at the comments on certain shoes in the last 7 or so pages and some of them don't rate as highly on runrepeat as expected. So far I'm of the opinion that the Nike vomero 14's sounds to be the most versatile for both distance and running surface. The Nike winflo 5's seem like the best value price vs performance. These were the ones standing out at relative price ranges (and are available at sportsmans warehouse through vitality):brooks launch 6brooks ghost 11saucony kinvara 10nike air zoom vomero 14nike air zoom winflo 5 (scored a lot lower than winflo 4, not sure why)nike air zoom fly (comes only in white)nike air zoom pegasus (sounds soft and comfy but slow and heavy)
SeaBee Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 What do you count as "long distance"?But in personal experience - I have run with older Kinvaras and loved them so much that Saucony is now mostly my go-to shoes. I personally won't take them beyond 30 k's, but I'm sure there's people that will. Also ran with an older version of the Ghost and will not wear Brooks again, since for me they were too narrow and too high a drop for me and the heel was too jiggly. Yet there are millions of happy Brooks (esp Ghost!) runners. So, what I'm saying is, it's very individual. When 5 of us may praise one shoe, it may not be the shoe for you. Much like bike saddles... I have a pair of Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 35 and I find them to be super comfy, although I'm not sure would you would consider heavy when it comes to running shoes. Dirkitech 1

The new knit top accomodates my wide feet very well (perhaps thats a fix on older versions?). I do agree the 12mm drop or so is a bit aggressive. But they're very comfortable. Saying this I'll be trying Altra for road shoes when these guys are tired, if Altra fails me, I'll 100% be back to Brookes. I haven't tried any of these others. Dirkitech 1

Stretch Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 After my ghost experience I'll never touch them again. Fine for runs in and around 10 -12km but anything after that and they were terrible for me Dirkitech 1

Were a good shoe, heavier than my last 2 Pegasus I'm sure. Nike Air Zoom Winflo - I had a pair of the 3. Great shoe and cheap relatively but a light shoe. Not built for miles like the Pegasus so you aren't comparing the same thing really. I've done 960kms on these and they are done for running. Gym only now. Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 33 - I've done 1,400kms in these and will still run in them every now and again. Love these shoes, definitely wouldn't consider them heavy Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 34 - done 550kms in these and they are my current everyday shoe. Love these shoes, definitely wouldn't consider them heavy Dirkitech 1
Odinson Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Height of comrades training I always used to go into the small bar we had in our office and take 40 winks on the couch in the sun there. Just gives you enough to get through the rest of the day I actually got up at 04h40 this morning for a treadmill session. Got dressed, had a glass of water, stared at the treadmill for a solid 5 mins, got undressed and went back to bed. A crap night's sleep really messes with my head. Will get a good night's sleep tonight and put the miles in tomorrow morning. Dirkitech, Stretch and Hacc 3
dave303e Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 My Hoka trail shoes were poked after the wartrail run, still love the shoes but they not fast and they didn't last as well as the previous pair so back to the drawing board with shoes again, 400km is not enough for a pair of shoes. Will look at faster Hoka's, maybe Altra or back to them Euro Bois(bank balance allowing of course) On the nap front I literally go on my lunch break some days, wolf down my food in 5 mins, and nap in the car for 45mins, can't get fired for sleeping at work if you in the car, winter sunny days I sometimes drive out the covered parking for the warmth. Usually after big races though when have had a weekend with no sleep or pulled a through the night training session Dirkitech 1
Chris_ Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Hmmm.... Asics Metaride, something strange brewing here Dirkitech 1

That would be the Vomero. I run in the Zoom Fly, Peg 35 and Vomero. The Pegasus is probably the best all round shoe. The Vomero is more cushioned and great for slow long runs. Dirkitech 1
Jackes Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Saucony is now mostly my go-to shoes. Yet there are millions of happy Brooks (esp Ghost!) runners. If only there was a store locally where I could fit them I think I might even have more Saucony than Brooks, which is currently my go to. Triumph and or Ride and the Peregrine's to be exact. https://www.poobienaidoos.co.za/?s=saucony&post_type=producthttps://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/saucony-mens-peregrine-iso/4686
