dave303e Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Guy, he is just behind leading lady who is now off course lost Chris_ and Andrew Steer 2
dave303e Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 interestingly if you look at the top 15 runners right now, 5 of them are experienced adventure racers Andrew Steer 1
Chris_ Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 This Ruan chap is going to finish the race before I go home tonight. They've probably ascended 1000m already in 21kms, hes through in 3 hours. L46 1
Chris_ Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 And Mr Arouca has decided he doesn't really need to follow the route...Â
dave303e Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Ruan is hard as nails, he also knows that area well, he set an AR route there last year, infact they just ran sections of it. He also happens to be part of the 9 peaks record team, and done well at a lot of big trail runs.  I see this is going to be a dogshow in terms of people going off course L46 1
Jewbacca Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 (edited) Hey guys. Sjoe! What an awesome route. Ruan blew that course apart. I can't see anyone going faster than that for a while. A seriously unreal effort from a properly accomplished athlete. The route markings were actually really good. I think guys were getting lost in the mist and a combination of fatigue and pressure made them forget to check their gps or route markings. I had a fantastic time out there. As I have no real race pedigree I prefer to set the trail alight with my sparkling personality, which was complimented well (occasionally over shadowed) by very similar Stanley Reed and Andrew Booth for most of the race. The 3 of us came home together in 33 and a half hours of hard earned bliss. A super slick event which I genuinely cannot fault. That is special country and I would encourage you guys to get there for one of next years races. The 50 miler and 46km are both still spectacular! For now, a bit of surfing and some rest this week. dave303e Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Solid run Jewbacca, looks like everyone enjoyed that race hey. Solid result as well. Jewbacca 1
Mudsimus Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 It seems like all Comrades runners on Strava are injured???? Is this normal or is it the nerves? Â I took 2 really easy weeks after my knee niggle, its getting better every day and my legs feel strong and rested. Now to stay healthy for the next two weeks. jdwet1980, Andrew Steer and Lexx 3
ScottCM Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 For the trail runners: Which hydration packs would you recommend for not really water supply but to have enough space for all compulsory equipment as well as comfort while running? OneDayOnly has these on special toady, would either be good enough or is there something better suited elsewhere like Salomon Agile etc?  https://www.onedayonly.co.za/octane-dart-1-5l-running-hydration-pack-4.htmlhttps://www.onedayonly.co.za/2018-arete-18-hydration-pack-with-1-5l-6.htmlhttps://www.onedayonly.co.za/l-u-x-e-3l-hydration-pack-6.html
dave303e Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 get a proper running pack rather. They are better balanced, a lot more comfortable and you can access your food, water and compulsory gear a lot more easily. Andrew Steer, Lexx, Pulse and 1 other 4
Jackes Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) It seems like all Comrades runners on Strava are injured Is this normal or is it the nerves? Nevermind injured, sick. This mission impossible to avoid getting sick this time of year, especially with kids, this alone is enough reason for me to be done with comrades in the future.  It is just impossible and costs a fortune...  I am out of ideas of self medication that I have not used to date and my bank account is also ruined. As it currently stands I will have to pull the trigger on antibiotics again this year, within the next few days. Lexx Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Little bit of a long shot here, But does anyone have a Skukuza 21km entry that they want to sell or give away.
dave303e Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Depends what event and how much compulsory gear you have if you go bare bones or like a 6-12l pack. But UD, Osprey, Salomon, Innov8 all make solid ones. I have done a few thousand km in my Salomon 12l litre and love it. The camelbak is just awkward so you have to take it off to get anything, there is literally only 1 compartment in the salomon that I have to take it off to reach and I can get away with not packing that compartment. I did full moon AR in it last weekend and other than when had to put on a life jacket to paddle I didn't take the pack off all race. L46 1
Andrew Steer Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Thanks Dave, any suggestions? Are you in a rush... else Nice Camelbak running packs do pop up on OneDayOnly quite often.Dave is 110% right as well, buy a running specific pack - even a slogger like me notices a big difference between the two packs I have, one running specific, the other more a hiking pack. It's night and day...
