Frosty Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Soweto half done. 5 mins quicker than planned, so happy with the effort. 1h75 is a sub-2, right? [emoji85][emoji16][emoji1787] tjommies3, IceCreamMan, shaper and 4 others 7
Frosty Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Today I saw why some races could run out of water. People at the water tables were handing out 5-6 sachets per person, with many of them being thrown on the ground after the water tables. What happened to getting 1 or 2, then moving on? My 500ml collapsable bottle was enough for 12Km, then two 250ml refills before the finish and I was done. Also, hardly saw a dustbin in sight, so hope the organizers actually sweep the route too.
Mudsimus Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 So Comrades entries are sold out... I’ll just have to wait for next year to pick one up...Trust me, there will be heaps of subs available. Everyone with a pair of shoes entered. Running a 4h50 qualifier still looms. seven and Ronniek 2

Just to wash down whatever I eat/slurp. Sachets need to come to a seriously abrupt end. If you don't have bottles at the special feed zones then stopping to grab a paper cup or filling your collapsible isn't going to cost you the race. If you're pushing for a silver at Oceans or a sub 70min half, you're serious enough to use the feed zones or ask someone to assist you with bottle handing. I think everyone else should carry their own or at least have their own cup. dave303e and Frosty 2

Stretch Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) Finished in 2:27. Winner Jepkosgei in 2:22Great result for her. Qualified for Olympics Looks like she just missed out on a top 10 Edited November 3, 2019 by Stretch Fruity and shaper 2
Mudsimus Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Officially 11thWatched from the start, her discipline is very impressive. She was running top 5, gave her watch one look and dropped right off the back. The pace was obviously too hot and she had a plan to stick to. On a Berlin type course she will crush the SA record. SwissVan Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 LOL Yes... could go forever... Anyone noticed how hard it is to run further than planned / expected, like when the race distance is wrong (longer) or your training route distance is wrong... Andrew Steer and Hacc 2
Lotus Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 LOL Yes... could go forever... Anyone noticed how hard it is to run further than planned / expected, like when the race distance is wrong (longer) or your training route distance is wrong...So true. If I do a 25k on a Sunday the last 3kms really hurt. If I do a 21k then the last 3kms hurt. I think if I do a 42k then the last 3 kms will hurt. I think there's a synaptic connection between my legs and the "home" location on the GPS I'm carrying. SwissVan and Andrew Steer 2
Jewbacca Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 I dunno... I usually perk up the last 15% of the race and start hitting my negative splits. I blew up at 60km during Puffer this year and the last 20 took me forever. The hurt on my pride surpassed the hurt in my legs!

New York isn't exactly a quick course like Berlin so I think she can smash the SA record on a fast course. A few South Africans met up in Central Park on Saturday morning for a run with Gerda. She was very relaxed and confident for the race. An incredible person and an asset to the SA running community. Hacc and ScottCM 2

I eventually gave up watching because they only ever showed the top group and had adverts every 5 minutes that were at least 2 minutes long. It was totally unbearable. I settled on the tracker. Looks like there is a tough spot between 20 and 25km
