I'll be dreaming of it while sit with max temps in single digits and prospect of snow next week... well at least the "mountain surfing" season is coming closer

Ok, here is my Race Review of the Kaapschehoop 42km, which I used for my Comrades Qualifier.

My week didn't start out great as I was feeling a bit sick, but I was dosing myself with VitC 2000mg every day. And felt better by Friday. ( no I'm not making excuses   :whistling:  )

So come Race day, and I opted for the Bus Travel to Kaapschehoop. The Busses left at 03:00 in the morning from Mbombela Stadium. So that meant I had to get up at 01:30, to get ready, eat something and drive to the stadium. We all thought that the bus would take a long time to get there, but our driver had other plans, and we arrived at the Start, pitched dark, not a single light in sight @03:55. So that meant we had to sit on the tar road for an hour and a half waiting to get the race underway.

So all the other busses came, it was prob about 2000+ people, and they all queued up right in front of the start line, not even the marshals could get them to move behind the line. So that meant I was literally right at the back. There were also a lot of conflicting messages on which way we will start and In which direction. Guns goes off and the back markers didn't want to move an inch, and I had to fight my way for a long time to get in front of them all. couldn't have a worst start, but I finally got in front of them all, and struggled to get my rhythm again. But after 15km, I found my long lost rhythm, but lost a hell of a lot of time. I went through halfway at 1:32, and knew if I pushed myself hard I could make Sub 3, but would be happy with a 3:10. I was pushing too hard and had a terrible run the last 4km.

I eventually came in at 03:19. Not my best time at all, but happy to be in Comrades B-batch. I learned a very valuable lesson today, not all races will go according to plan, and I just have to make the best of it. I was so pissed off that I had to start right at the back, and loosing so much time, that I almost lost focus on what I can do to correct it.
