ah, here we go.... this is where years of experience come in.... firstly, Mr Min the frame and polish it nicely... the dust wont stick so easy and its easy to wipe off, degrease the chain just before the trip, and DO NOT lube it until you are there, and my favourite, swipe your wife, girlfriends, or common law shag's shower cap, they usual stretch nicely over the drive train and keep out the muck!!

dust is not a problem on the frame. moving parts, eish.

thought this would always be a good idea, then actually saw one. not sure how well it works but on the right track.

Bozo Bike Covers selling at R990.00 until end of December 2015

Bozo covers looks good, but as I can see on the pictures it looks open at the bottom, so then the dust will definately come in from there, it will work well for mud!!

.............I MUST JUST REMEMBER THEY ARE ON TOP.....!!!!!!!!!!.........

Cable tie an old piece of fishing rod to the bulbar to stick out the same height as the bikes. It will be a visible reminder!

seems roof mount is still the best for loooong dusty trips .....

I dont mind a "dirty" bike, thats part of the trip.    :whistling:

But the grinding paste in all the moving parts    :cursing:

how do the Thuli roof-rack systems stand up to long gravel trips ?????

When you arrive where you need to be, use an air compressor to blow the dust out of all the crevices. If you dont have a portable one then stop at the last petrol station and use the air line there.

Painters tape for all the bearings , chain off , plastic bag for derailieur and shifters, brake Levers and saddle maybe some wax for Frame protection and a good wash after arrival

You need to worry about water on the roof as well.

Back a few years I had my Headshok needle bearings on my Cannondale replaced at Cape Cycle Systems and the oke told me that the rain at high speed gets into every crevice more than any power washer and it had forced its way into the shock

I did the motorbike cover, but you need to wrap the whole thing with straps to keep the loose bits from flapping, worked pretty well.

I have tried just leaving it and washing it later and it made an awful mess esp all the greased or lubed bits.
