I'm in Midrand.

I did post a couple pages back, but it got lost in the *** talk, that I might ride from this side to meet up with Stevie and Hayley in the Cradle if anyone else wants to come ;)

How far would that end up being, or do you mean drive over that way and then cycle?

I'm all the way from Boksburg. A bit far out for me too.

Perhaps 1 Sunday every few weeks would be cool..

Any1 else closer to me willing to do training rides closer to home, let me know

Why not hook up with Geraldm24 and his crew from Germiston.

I'm contemplating riding there*, doing the loop, then riding home.

I'd guess it'll be around 90km round trip.

*depending if I can find a decent route off the highway to get there.

Lurch it is 120km + from crowthorne spar if you go via cedar road and do the cradle loop once and come back same way. This your only option from Midrand. With the current road works on cedar it is not recommended unless you have balls of steel and a deathwish.

You've known me long enough to know I have a little bit of a death wish... ;) :P

Ok, that's a little far...

I think a better option would be to drive to Cycle lab and park there. We come right past there, so a little detour into the car park wouldn't be a train smash.

A quicker and altogether safer option for you to consider. The only downside would mean you riding from Northcliff/Linden to Cycle lab on your own, as we would drop off before then... Best I can suggest and again, definitely the safer option.

Carpet knows about the death wish but has yet to check on steel ;) :P haha

Why do I need to do that check? ????????????

I will supply the gloves and then you can ask a man who already has a pair to check for you.

Only went to fetch my bike or my car now, both wheels flat flat! Those are my 1st punctures on my road bike (only had once before on my mtb). Thank goodness it didn't happen on the ride because I decided to not carry any spares or tools with this time (was the 1st time in my road bike I decided that too)...Told Wes this before the time "I'll rather carry an extra bottle of fluid today than spares"... I dropped that bottle just after the 1st hill (useless)

Anyway... Guess I have to go buy tubes now. I need new tires too though...

Looks like the Force was with Hayley ... I also only took my bike in today .. rest is apparently important.

I was having a bad spell last week, 8 punctures in 2 days. Needless to say I rode with lots of tubes and lots of tools. mmmmmm... lots of extra weight but not one mechanical breakdown(aside from the 12 punctures in my legs) .

I will take that as a win though

The absolute perfect training route would be Suikerbosrand. Imagine if everyone knew there will be a group training ride at 6:30 every first Saturday of the month (for example).

Yes true. No traffic. Awesome hill training and descending. Nice and accessible.

I'd be keen on this on any Sunday.

Unfortunately Saturday i work from 9am..
