I have been insured for 15 years (5 of them with Santam), never claimed for anything more than a cracked windscreen.

I have made peace with the fact they don't like me but lets not hijack this thread with my boring story.

It's very strange because I know that Santam wants people with good claims history. I also know that they are looking at their premiums to be market related. They are "expensive" but with nagging for discount they tend to come to the party....believe me

Yep, you would think..

But I agree with the other comments, Santam is the stand out insurance company when you speak to people in the industry

That's how I checked - my broker was explicit about not being able to get W&T cover (and they are a very good brokerage in all aspects). That's why I am a bit surprised to read it is possible.

Are you sure they are that good?

No insurance will cover you for wear and tear. Mybike was not replaced because of a a wear and tear issue, it was replaced because the frame broke when a car hit me.

Have had this same topic discussed with my lbs. If your bike developes a crack around bb area for example, would that be seen as normal wear and tear or a failure in the frame

For what its worth, I'm with Alex Forbes. Never a single issue when I need to claim. I did once say to my lady who deals with my policy that I feel bad when I claim, she said " you pay the premiums, we're here to help you" My bikes are covered for everything including races.

Won't change from AF

OK, cool, thanks, that makes sense now.

Insurance cover and boerewors - you can always make it cheaper, but you get what you pay for and you should not really complain when you find that the one only contains gristle and offall and the other does not live up to expectation either.

Also had problems with miway when i did my claim, send me to Cycle lab then to cwc and then to another bike shop and after a long battle i eventually got my replacement

Nope. They operate independently. Only have some shareholders in common.

They are 100% owned by Santam (since 2010) as far as I know, but continue to operate as a separate subsidiary.

So yes don't expect them to be as good as Santam.

And My bikes are insured with MiWay :/

Thank you for all the advice, comfort and support it is truly appreciate!

I will be in contact with Miway from 9-11-15 to establish method of assessment and I'm sure the visual tap and listen approach was used to keep cost down. The more professional approach to detect invisible damage to the inside/outside of frame

*endoscope(internal camera)

*x - ray

*a combination of heat, ultrasonics and hi-resolution thermal imaging

*

These methods are costly and will exceed the value of a new frame

What is so fascinating about this, is the carbon frame is not painted to reduce weight by manufacturer, and only received a clear laquar. How on earth will this repair be concealed, if the whole frame have the roar carbon layer look?

Most importantly, the guarantee to frame my safety and others! Medical cost, if frame snaps under high speed and injury occurs to me and other riders and the list goes on and on.

Looking at the bright side, I'm happy this happen to me, and not to all the super dudes I meet on the road.

I am with Mutual & Federal. I feel on a rock with my Santa Cruz, causing a tiny  crack in my rear stay where I hit the rock.

Local bike shop gave me a quote on a new rear stay, R8 000. I forwarded to M & F explaining what happened and the money was in my account 2 days later. No questions nothing !!
