Discovery Health - Vitality & Team Vitality plus everything else you need to know

Recommended Posts

Time to swap to Elite High Performance Endurance Super Duper Hard Man Athlete on Vitality for the holidays and new year as I'll earn my smoothie in 2 holiday rides of 120 minutes at 70%, then in the new year I'll klap the 30,000 before reverting to basic piss poor athlete for rest of the year.

Assuming one can go back to piss poor athlete.

All too easily!

edit: link to the 2017 points is here: https://www.discovery.co.za/portal/individual/vitality-news-oct16-points-updates-for-2017

I have no idea - I was doing my usual end-of-year browse through their website to see what's install for the following year. Came across that image.

And also this disturbing point (for Team Vitality members) - highlighted in red:

You can earn up to 50% cash back on the pre-race registration fees up to a maximum spend of R3 000 each quarter, and up to R12 000 in a calendar year. This means you can earn up to R1 500 cash back (50% of R3 000) in a quarter, and up to R6 000 a year. To qualify for cash backs on race registration fees, please take note of the following:

  • The event must be one of the selected, timed events on the Team Vitality race calendar that qualifies for a 50% cash back.
  • You must have completed the event and be a member of Team Vitality.
  • You must be a Team Vitality member at the time the cash back is awarded.
  • You will get up to 50% cash back on the pre-race registration fee only (the cash back does not apply to the additional fee if you register late or to T-shirts, promotional items, donations, temp licences, etc.).
  • Cash back will be awarded automatically once we have received the verified results from the timing company.
  • Please note Team Vitality reserves the right to change the allocated cash back amount on races.

The cash back for October, November and December is made in January.

The 2016 membership expires on 31/12/2016.

I wonder if the cash back is forfeited if you don't renew - something to consider if you've done 2-3 races in the final quarter like me.

Points allocation for gold remains unchanged :)

Thanks Gerald, as always seen first on the hub

Where you found this link, did it give you the points required for getting to gold?

I see there is a high performance fitness assessment.... wonder if you have to do this assessment to earn the endurance and high performance points?

HP fitness assessment is for those who want more metrics than the normal one gives. Like a mini medical in effect. Nothing to do with the endurance or normal weekly VAR system or fitness points. That's still an opt in.

You'll see I edited my response before (with the link) and after (with the high performance bit) you posted.

I did thanks, so with the online and health checks and fitness assessment should easily make 35,000 points before even doing any workouts or events ... Gold should be achieved before end of Feb, March at the latest :)

Can one only have one boosted flight in place at a time? I'm trying to boost a second flight but its all greyed out.

Did a Trial Run this morning in George, first one ever, so didn't have a clue as to what pace I should run, so tried to stick with the people who seemed to know what they are doing for as long as possible.

As a result, I ran my heartrate a bit close to the rev limiter(see photo below)

I turn 31 in 5 days time, so my calculated max heart rate is 189bpm then. So I basically averaged 99.5% of my max heart rate for 42min(at 5:11min/km). Still felt fine afterwards.

Point has been mentioned tons of times on here that heart rate is not a definitive indicator of effort. I understand that it is probably the best option for the Vitality system currently, but there is definitely some people on the other side of the heart rate scale that are getting the short end of this deal.

(Plus I wanted to share the 99.5% ave heartbeat as I have never achieved this before)

I would also like some clarification on the "2 bookings per year" limitation. Is it two flights or two bookings? In some of the literature they use the term "flights" and in other places "bookings" which is it?

Your actual maximum heart rates should be quite a bit higher based on that effort! or you could be coming sick?

I've read somewhere that the 220-age calculation has a 15 bpm play either side, but other than having every Vitality member doing a HRmax test they do not have much options to get to a generally fair and cheap estimate.

220-age is BS - plenty of references to that. Test your heart-rate - it is unique.

Rookie - welcome to the world of trail running... it's a bug that bites!  :whistling:

Any one got cash back for 94.7 and 94.7 mtb?

Cashback is only paid at the next next billing cycle after the end of the quarter, i.e. events in Oct-Dec are paid in Jan.

I'm going to write an app to check my disco Healthyfood cash back each month. No doubt I'm being ripped off.

post-35786-0-68493100-1482219501_thumb.jpg

According to disco I spent around R250 on fruit and veg and a total food shop of just over R500 for the month. I wish my credit card used at PnP agreed with a R500. I wonder what we ate all month.

Anyone ever check this against till slips?

Are genuine questions about Vitality benefits only allowed to be asked on Fridays in this thread?
