Discovery Health - Vitality & Team Vitality plus everything else you need to know

Recommended Posts

I got conned into signing up for the Active Rewards program, but for some reason they got Chris Froome and myself mixed up.

I am an old man and social cyclist yet they have set my weekly target at 1200 points.

Is this in the ball park, or was it just a mistake to sign up the week I finished the Rapha Festive 500 ?

You are on the endurance option

I manually submitted TWICE for the Discovery Duathlon in Cape Town (Ironically the Discovery sponsored event was not on the Vitality Race Calendar - Left hand/right hand springs to mind) and I still haven't received my points.  I gave up in the end - I couldn't be bothered to write emails again.

You may have received it... but it's the weirdest thing. I got a "higher points already awarded" - so just go check.

But ja, the weird thing is I got my 300 from HR. But a 10k run (race) is 600 on it's own. A <50k road bike race as well as a 5 k run race are both 300 each. So we did all three - yet somehow they decided 300 is more... whilst even just the first leg of the run is (well, should be) more. Not all that fussed, because I'll max out the fitness points very quickly anyway. Just absolutely mind-blowing logic.

So go have a quick look on that date's point. Your's may have been "awarded" but to the same effect as mine.

they did similar to me this weekend.

took my step count rather than my cycle and awarded me the 50 points for the steps vs 100 for the cycling workout.

That’s the difference between getting what you should and not getting it... sending a follow up email. It doesn’t bother me, and I make a point of getting it sorted.

I did not ask to be. But what does being on it imply ?

Much easier to get points at a lower Heart rate and you can achieve target with 2 activities of 600 points each instead of a minimum of 3 activities of 300 points each. You also get points for longer rides at lower heart rates. (60% and above instead of 70% and above).

Has anyone here tried to renew the shoe booster?

So I signed up for shoe booster last year early march.

Shopped at sportsmans on 11 march.

Phone the call centre today to find out on which date I will be able to renew the shoe booster and get told only in May!

Needless to say I have now requested a full recon from them regarding all shoe booster activities.

Now to wait for the explanation where the additional months are coming from.

When I queried it in Jan, they told me the Apple Watch and Shoe Booster both end in Feb.

I have already signed up (again) for the Apple Watch, and will check the shoe Booster next month - the cash back payment I received last week should be the last one for the shoe booster.

I noticed with the Apple Watch is changed from Active to Activate, the day after 24-months ended.

Have you created the profile yet under My baby. I am trying to find more info on their site but the site crashes, would like to know before I go and sign up for my kids having to wear a heart rate monitor when they go play in the park..

Yes, created the profile for my youngest (4 year old), but nothing shows up on the Cover & Rewards link. I doubt that a kid would have to wear a device.

As for the education protector policy, which it refers to in the My Baby link, I requested a quote. Every time I receive a scrambled message (see below) on their quote - it must be my mobile device/HP laptop/iMac/Macbook that is the problem because they aren’t to blame for the illegible quote. I’ve since given up and asked the broker (that signed me up with a life policy ,in 2004, to come see me.

So I queried why I have not been awarded any vitality points to discovery miles and after some investigation was advised that I am a high claimer on the medical aid criteria calculation....

https://www.discovery.co.za/email_za/mailers/pdfs/general/tables_dhms_points_to_miles.pdf

I meet the criteria for spend with the discovery card, so all good there.

As of today am currently sitting on 116 consecutive weeks of reaching my vitality goals, which shows that I do not get ill and even if I do I still manage to hit my goals.

Last year I suffered 2 ITB injuries (running related) and 1 rotator cuff injury (swimming) which are probably a result of over training (so am fit and healthy triathlete/cyclist).  Discovery says that I claimed R13000 last year which puts me in the category of high claimer.

However the majority of that amount was for physio (I saw a doctor on 2 occasions that were medical related) for the above injuries and all was covered and paid for out of my own medical savings account (so did not cost discovery anything), yet I am classed as a high claimer!!!

Outcome, no points to miles awarded !!

Anyone else got the same?
