Seems correct.

Bank customers (with money), get 20% discount when spending miles, and double (40%) on the 15th of every month. Not sure this applies to normal credit card holders without the money reward program, as I have only used my miles on double day purchases.

Credit card gives you access to the discovery bank app and double miles day, don't need a full banking suite for that, although I then 'only' get 15/30% instead of 20/40%.

And I opened a pay per transaction bank account for my wife so she also has access to her miles in the banking app instead of just vouchers in the discovery app (she didn't need the credit card because she already has one linked to mine and didn't need a full banking suite).

If you guys read the fine print, the devices are only 50% if you buy them as combos. Like a watch or a computer AND a HRM. tested with my wifes polar h10 beginning of the month. I also have 25 and 50%. Could only buy it on the 25% if taken on it’s own. The lady at the till was able to explain it to me too.

The 50+% device discount works for devices that have built in HR. You only have to do the combo deals (device and HR strap) for devices that don't have HR built in. (And as noted already earlier, HR straps on their own are considered gear, not devices.)

Okay so its starting to stick now

I have no banking products other than the CC

On gear i generate the Voucher 25% on R 2 000.00 = R 500.00

My current voucher = R 250.00

Current miles 6150 generate an instore payment voucher = R 615.00

So -

HRM @ R 2 499.00 - R 500.00 - R 250.00 - R 615.00 = R 1 134.00 at the till

Correct ?

You can't just generate a voucher for any amount. They come in R100, R250 and maybe R500. - I'm not sure about that one Sometimes some of them aren't available and you have to wait a few days until they are. When I looked now, only the R100 vouchers are available. That means you would have to buy 1 voucher every day for 6 days to get R600 off.

Go to the Bank app -> Scroll to your "Discovery Miles" account and tap on that-> Tap on Spend -> "Pay in store"

There you can generate any 'voucher'.

My banking app doesn't have any miles account on it. I have the free savings account and that's all that shows. My miles only show in the normal Discovery/Vitality app

Thanks guys - You all contributed to my new level of Disco education. As soon as this gout attack leaves my foot and I can walk, I be visiting SWH to claw back some ronds from vitality

Question for you @madmarc,

Do you "have to" get a Garmin HRM?

What about getting a Polar H10? It's cheaper (R1800), transmits on BLE and Ant+, has a longer lasting battery, and is perceived to be more accurate than the Garmin straps. It's also on Vitality Gear, so you get the same discount (25%) although not R500, but R450, So you'll save an additional R650; see calculation below:

Polar H10 - R1800
less R450 (Vitality Gear)
= R1350

Garmin HRM-Pro - R2500
less R500 (Vitality Gear)
= R2000

You can thank me later... 😁

From DCRainmaker:

Now, let’s briefly look at the differences, but first, I’ll just give you the TLDR: If you’re a Garmin user, buy the Garmin strap. If you’re anything else, then probably buy the Polar strap. The reason is relatively simple for Garmin users, because while the Wahoo TICKR-X supports offline workouts, Wahoo hasn’t implemented the data offloading via ANT+ (they use their own internal app offloading process via Bluetooth Smart). And similarly, Polar hasn’t implemented any offloading to watch (nor any running efficiency metrics).

If you aren’t in the Garmin wearable ecosystem but still want data offloading, then you’re deciding between the Polar H10 or Wahoo TICKR X, with an edge to the Polar H10 for stability/accuracy in my recent experience. Whereas if you want more of the TICKR X running efficiency metrics (such as with the Wahoo RIVAL), or because you want their offloading, splicing, and sync to partners. Except, my challenge recently is I’ve continued to have drop-out issues with the newer TICKR straps – something mirrored by regular readers and friends alike – hence why I pulled it from the most recent round-up of strap recommendations. Plus, Polar’s strap is probably a bit more comfortable though for some people.

My decision
I'm getting the Polar because I have a non-Garmin head unit, but I also want the ability for the HRV functionality from the Polar.

Amen & agree.  I'm using a H10 for about 3 years now, no issues what so ever.  You can even record HR for an exercise without your device with you, for example in the gym where you want as little as possible with you.

Thanks I see your point - like I said in my OP the Garmin price is crazy. I think I'll go with your suggestion it only needs to work with my Garmin 520 / Zwift & TR

If you are just looking for a hr strap with dual connectivity buy the one from Decathlon? It's R500 +-.
