What is the cut-off time at Smits?

I told my wife and and youngest son they just have to focus on making that cut with the wind from the front. From there it should be better. It will be their first Argus, and they start just before 10.

They have extended cut-off times before depending on circumstances, and strong winds could be one of them

OK, I have heard, maybe urban rumour, that in 2009 they pulled people at Smits at 13h00 that have not passed there yet at that time.

That was quite an experience

At the start, watching the group ahead of me getting blown over the Foreshore

Surreal stuff ????

Worst expo I have ever been to. Never again

I haven't been yet. Planning on going tomorrow.

I was hoping it was going to change from last year.

I guess it never live up to standards like at the Good Hope Center.

Watched in horror as the chemical toilet got blown across the road in front of our group while we waited to start.

I did 3:12 last year starting 6:31 and still faffed about for ages.  Last group took AGES to get out the shoot.  So guess 3:30 is still ok

I managed 3:05 last year starting at 6:33:30.My strategy is to stay mid-pack and tail suck to the end. Then have fun on lap 2 if I make it.

Everything runs late in Cape Town. Business decisions, trains, parliament, building projects, the weather. I'm calling a still morning and the wind coming up hard at mid day. Just after I come over Smits and blows me home.

Dear CTCT expo,

Forcing people to walk through the hall of cycling commercialism gone wild when all they want to do is collect their racepaks is off putting. Particularly when one is officiously shepherded by unsmiling security muppets who look like they are itching for the opportunity to unleash some aggression.

Not cool.

No thanks
