Quick question regarding seeding.

I am in the Western Cape and currently cant make stellenbosch cycle tour or one tonner due to other commitments.

Will the 99er 2017 count towards Argus seeding for 2017 or only for Argus 2018.

I have a feeling its the latter however I thought I would just double check.

Official, only 2018, unofficially its get penalty of ~2 normally but still counts towards

A while back (post #346) Pure Savage was so confident that they use the 99er for the same year's seeding that he offered to name his unborn child some unspeakable name if they don't

He has since edited & retracted that bold claim..

Read into that what you want

HI All,

I would like to find out if it is at all possible to still get an entry for the Argus at a reasonable start time ?

If so, what would the process be etc ...  as I see this race you have to request a entry and wait to be approved unlike the others that allow registration at number collection?

I have just recently decided to partake in this event and have missed the registration application.

Thanks in advance.

Keep an eye on the classifieds, there will be LOADS of entries for sale closer to the time.

You could also look at riding for a charity, but those will cost more

Your seeding (and thus starting time) is dependant on your performance in other races. Therefore, your starting time does not depend on what entry you get, but on what times you did in other seeding races. Try do at least one of those, because you will then start and ride with a group of more or less similar ability. Check the Cycle Tour website. If you did nothing to give an idea of your ability, you will start at the tail end of the race. Your only other way to start a little earlier, is to join a charity group, or the PPA, which will get you going earlier than totally unseeded riders, but still nowhere near the front.

The start time of a substitution will depend on your seeding index and not that of the person whose entry you are taking over.

Thank you very much. Will consider a charity, as I am riding for the Sunflower fund for the 947. Sorry, not familiar with the term PPA? Is this the license?

Pedal Power Association = organizers of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, aka the ARGUS.

PPA is Pedal Power Association. Its a cycling association based down in Cape Town. I don't think its worth joining if you live up in Joburg, but your decision to make. You would only benefit from a membership fully if you live down there.

Doing this one with my 76y old dad - his 1st one. Because seeding is no issue I am completely relaxed about it all. Very different to when I was absolutely hellbent on getting a C start or better (to do the double lap). Strange how the same thing looks and feels different from another angle. I could not care less where I started. Last one I started the 2nd lap in the 2nd last group - also had a lot of fun.

What a special occasion!! I take my hat of to your dad who attempts his first one at this age. I hope you both enjoys it thoroughly.

I decided late to enter this one.  As a born and bred Capetonian, I just have to try this one as well.  It wil be my first one.

I managed to get an entry through a charity (Bumblebee Foundation) and in reality I think it is actually cheaper than a normal entry:

R 800 to enter (which is a bit more than a normal entry I assume)

I have to sell 20 x R 50 competition tickets for the charity

I get a complimentary cycling shirt - Taking this into account, it makes it cheaper than a normal entry in my opinion.

I get the satisfaction of doing something small for a good cause.

Enjoy it! It is something special.

I'm speaking from experience, having done the same with my dad. He's entered again "one more last time" for next year, at age 78. I always consider riding with him, and I do every couple of years, but I now also have a 16 and 17 year old to chase, so I think I'll try and beat them "just one more time" come March! On two occasions we have all started and finished together, which really was something fantastic, but now the teenagers want to race.

This is how I rode Argus numbers 3 and 4. With both Dad and Brother. As you can see from my profile pic I still ride it with my Dad.
