With this wind I am reading of on the other tread ...thinking of the Idea to take my Gravel / Monster bike also.

Much heavier than my road bike and the 2.25 tyres on lower pressure will handle so much better in the wind

If the wind continue like this, I belief a lot of sub 3 dreams will be shattered again

After 26 years of doing this race I have learnt that even when I wake up at 03h00 on the 2nd Sunday(well normally) in March and having a look at the wind means nothing. It can change in the following hours. I have given up bothering and just ride what ever comes my way. Besides, we all have to ride in the same conditions anyway.

For the first time ever I have no worries about the wind. I'll be sheltered the whole way round sitting really close to the Guy in front of me, letting him take all the wind.

This tandem malarkey is great.

I might be a bit naive here because I don't cycle that much in the southern suburbs, but I'm not particularly worried about the southern winds that we have had over the past few weeks

First few kilometers are early in the morning when the winds are more quiet and you are in a bunch anyway. Once you past Smits you don't mind the wind picking up because then it is mostly from behind?

I remember in 2014 we were way behind the "official time splits" when we got to Smits due to the southern wind but more than caught up the second half of the race.

Only issue will be when it is stormy from early in the morning which is not impossible but less likely?

Wind does have a huge impact on about 350 riders in sub three stakes. Last year on what was probably the most perfect day ever for the Argus (typical with me in hospital) around 850 guys klapped a sub 3. In a not so perfect day with a little southeaster blowing 500 is close to the cut off.

OK, I see in 2014 it was less than 500 who did a sub-3

The wind is only an issue till Smits and even then there are a few "protected" stretches. Then if its blowing the first part chappies and suikerbossie are easier. If its blowing hard chappies is ***. In my experience that is.

We were 12 minutes behind the split at Smits, and we ended up gaining 20 minutes on the way home. 2:52 at the end. Some crazy strava segments through the reserve!!

HOW much wind are you expecting? Enough to break waves over the road?

The wind from the front don't faze me much. It's those crosswind gusts from Llandudno to Camps Bay that I don't like. One moment you are cruising along, and next moment you are almost going backwards on the other side of the road.
