Before I enter the Epic, I first want to do the W2W. My boss said he will pay for my entry. Problem is that only entries open for the Ride. None left for the Race or Adventure. Is the Ride worth the effort?

yes- same route - less madness/pressure

Works for me.

Just want to get into the stage race mindset, even though I probably have ridden most of the W2W trails a few times already.

W2W will be my first stage race.

From what I have seen you are plenty strong enough to finish it. It's not a very hard route, just some technical sections that is roadies could struggle with.

I've done a few Trailseeker Half Marathons, so the tech stuff I can do.

problem is that pre qualifying is just a.money making racket - given the qualifiers will be part of the series and international based only most likely... going to take BIG pockets to fund an epic if they do that... so perhaps more corporate fat cats... not less...

Back next year?

Nope, but now I get it. So how come the other 2 are sold out, and not the Ride?

PS: Ek kruip maar onder die sand weg, en kom net uit as die wind ophou waai het.

By October the trail will also be sold out, as the others said - the mid-week time slot less appealing for obvious reasons. But I think it's an excellent opportunity to get into the w2w if you haven't done it before, pretty hard to get entries for the race & adventure

Entered, now waiting for the boss to pay.

BTW, the boss has done 4 Epics, so the other day the subject came up in a meeting. He asked me why I have not done an Epic yet. Money and not having the Epic in my legs was my excuse, he then told me to start with W2W, which he will pay for.

Back next year?

Probably not - thinking tankwa trek and pioneer next year - still doing transbaviaans later this year and going to do some more enduro events - might even do a road race...

There's this thing in April every year, called the Ironman which could be interesting...

It's about time. This way you get fewer corporate posers that push their bikes in the Prologue already, or don't make Stage 1. Give the entries to those that have a greater chance to actually make it.

In Surfski, one have to qualify to do either the PE-EL race, or the Cape Point Challenge.

I will support this, even if I myself will have to work hard to qualify.

So I'll be that guy...., [DIPSFAMOUSSAYING#2]

What kind of qualification would be suitable for the epic? Keep in mind it's a global event and not every participant has access to the multitude of events like in SA

I'm not so sure a qualification is nessecary for the epic..... surf ski is a different type of event... skill and experience definetly required for that.

Anyway, qualification events as someone mentioned are mostly money making exercises and don't gaurantee that competitors will be good enough to finish, just look at comrades, duzi etc... both require qualification etc but you still get those type of participants who probably should not be there on the start line....

yep. 75k per team or something.

Jissie that's a bit steep.. I mean I know it's pricy but damn the increase from year to year is a bit much..

And yes I know it's expensive to run, but 75k per team expensive yoh I don't know hey.

As if his Epic couldn't get any worse, he had a crash yesterday
