Actually Strauss has done a few Epics before. She raced with Cherie Vale last year and has done at least two other Epics. This is however her best result by far. Last was an amazing team mate for her and I think that if all goes well they could be genuine contenders for GC win next year.

Ok was not aware of that. Last had a great race and it was her 1st Epic with limited marathon racing experience

Wrt Last you were spot on. If she has done any marathon racing it was one day events. But she and Mariske are such complementary personalities with a shared sense of humour. They make a strong team. One that in future could prove a winning one.

Not a good year for past champions. Team Bulls finishing 12th and Ariane and Partner in 5th. Lakata and Hynek not really featuring this year. They all must be pretty disappointed.

Not bad for Sauser after coming back from retirement, though, and well done to Schurter and teammate

Sauser announced on his blog that today was definetly his last pro competitive event. A real pity as I thought him and Kulhavy were an awesome pair, albeit Kulhavy the stronger contender. For a 40yr old to finish second to a machine like Shurter is serious motivation for me.

Just finishing is a fantastic achievement, but 281st is seriously well done

How old was his partner?

He rode with my younger brother, 30 years old. Raemondo on the hub, let's just say he taught the lightie some manners on the last 4 days. But they had a jol. It was also his 3rd finish. He is a proper inspiration.

How was your ride Dr?

Mostly ok - we had 2 technicals- broken chain in the prologue and my rear Dr dropped the bottom pulley out - piece of the plate broke out - luckily my partner rode back and found it and we cobbled it together with the help of a rock and a treestump to get the bearing back in and the last 2 threads in the plate held to get us 60k home for the day... super lucky escape.

Partner also took a big otb after clipping a pedal- think he has a cracked rib and probably a broken bone in his thumb after that so that slowed up the downhills a lot.

Still - happy with the end result which gives us 9th grand master team overall - unfortunately epic race office ignored a email to put us in the cat and so we raced in masters cat despite us being grand masters...

Overall pretty happy with the result - although pissed at the race office staff who ignored a couple of emails..

Well done 50cc, and to your poor partner mark for pulling you to the finishline I'm sure he had a couple of ruff days out there and I'm not talking about the the stages, you deserve a Fanta orange, and mark a case of (insert vice)

Well done

Does anyone know if the guy carrying his bike across the line with his wheels dragging behind him actually had a problem with the bike, or was he just putting on a bit of a show?

From what I saw it looked liked a guy called Stefano Madies, who is very "showmany" Italian VB rider. Well known personality up here.

Edit: As to the bike question, I can't say, if I see him on the roads I'll ask.

They spoke to him on the line..from what I could gather about 3km from the end his back wheel stopped turning or something like that.
