I like the blue "JN" flag  . . .  showing where John Ntuli was at the same time in the race last year.

Seem it the strong headwinds are reeking havoc.  This is though on a whole new level.

I can't find any info, just see he is scratched.

Have all the front runners trackers gone awol or is it just me?

Heat stroke... got a pic of him looking rather 'ghostly and pale' yesterday evening. If the conditions hold I would expect a huge dropout % - most human beings aren't really geared for it.

I love the "race Flow" view, interesting to see the different strategies. Sleep long, ride hard or sleep short, keep constant speed.

Me too. I see VR is getting very little sleep/rest compared to KB. Surely that must take its toll later on.

He tweeted heat stroke.

That's a bummer, going out on a limb here but I reckon living in KZN helps you learn to ride in the heat although it's no a dry heat you still get 40+ days plus the humidity regularly in summer. Seeing as Jeannie, Kevin, Sthembiso and John from last year all lived within 40km of each other has to make to wonder.

I commuted home at 17.00 and the wind was pumping like crazy and temps still above 30 degrees, felt broken after 20km...HUGE respect to the riders.

That wind and the low humidity means many people will make hydration mistakes - not taking enough water now will hurt later in the race....

Some of these guys are unbelievable! I see that the Munga last year was Freek van Tonder's first MTB race.

Go BIG

For sure, my mouth was bone dry after 10mins into the wind and the water in my bottle quickly heated up...can't imagine how it feels slogging into it for hours on end.
