Pure Savage Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I love the "race Flow" view, interesting to see the different strategies. Sleep long, ride hard or sleep short, keep constant speed.
Red Robin Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I see quite a few competitors are 'scratched' this morning. Must be quite soul destroying after all the preparation and training etc.
Spoke101 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Oi did Tim crash?I can't find any info, just see he is scratched. Have all the front runners trackers gone awol or is it just me?
IH8MUD Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I like the blue "JN" flag . . . showing where John Ntuli was at the same time in the race last year. Seem it the strong headwinds are reeking havoc. This is though on a whole new level.
Kranswurm Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 This time of the year the wind is always pumping in that areaQuite kuk in fact
Long Wheel Base Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I can't find any info, just see he is scratched. Have all the front runners trackers gone awol or is it just me?He tweeted heat stroke.
Andrew Steer Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I can't find any info, just see he is scratched. Have all the front runners trackers gone awol or is it just me?Heat stroke... got a pic of him looking rather 'ghostly and pale' yesterday evening. If the conditions hold I would expect a huge dropout % - most human beings aren't really geared for it. "The Toughest race on earth" is living up to it's credentials

Sleep long, ride hard or sleep short, keep constant speed.Me too. I see VR is getting very little sleep/rest compared to KB. Surely that must take its toll later on.

Spoke101 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 He tweeted heat stroke. That's a bummer, going out on a limb here but I reckon living in KZN helps you learn to ride in the heat although it's no a dry heat you still get 40+ days plus the humidity regularly in summer. Seeing as Jeannie, Kevin, Sthembiso and John from last year all lived within 40km of each other has to make to wonder.
hboli4 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I commuted home at 17.00 and the wind was pumping like crazy and temps still above 30 degrees, felt broken after 20km...HUGE respect to the riders.
Andrew Steer Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I see Hanlie Booyens has also withdrawn. Now you know it's stupid tough out there... she's as tough as they come. Being 55kg's though in that wind is not fun though I reckon

jcza Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Some of these guys are unbelievable! I see that the Munga last year was Freek van Tonder's first MTB race. Go BIG
hboli4 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 That wind and the low humidity means many people will make hydration mistakes - not taking enough water now will hurt later in the race.... For sure, my mouth was bone dry after 10mins into the wind and the water in my bottle quickly heated up...can't imagine how it feels slogging into it for hours on end.
