I think experience trumped youth yesterday.

MvdP is a star - he made that so exciting.  First time I've watched PR.  I could not believe he made it back into the Peloton after the crash.  Then to make the break.  Exuberance of youth for sure but there is no doubt about his talent and grit.  Maybe his overconfidence on the bike and sublime handling skills cost yesterday.  Perhaps if he was more conservative he'd have stayed on. I don't know what was going on with his team, maybe he said don't wait for me - but as a spectator they seem sh*t and not up to it.

You talking about WvA. MvdP is the guy that won the midweek Flanders race last Wednesday. The current cyclocross champ. WvA is the ex cyclocross champ.

Phil Liggett, is that you?

Yes I stand corrected  - got confused by the acronyms and outstanding Cyclocross riders - must have picked up Murray Walkers disease listening to Phil Ligget yesterday

Don't worry about it. WvA and MvdP respective careers are running in parallel rather nicely. You are hardly the first person to confuse them and you won't be the last.

Don't worry, I cross over to another thread, motoGP for eg and then there are a whole bunch of new names with acronyms to see who we talking about.

How long till MvdP signs with a big team like WvA did? I am sure he watched yesterday and was jealous of WvA.

Not until 2021. He is reportedly on a very nice salary and his current team support his CX and road aspirations and he is building towards 2020 Olympics. After that, all bets are off. The Belgian and Dutch teams would kill to have him on their squads. Most teams would obviously, but he is a hot topic in NL and Flanders.

We all thought WvA would also still be with his old team for another year until things went south. I am sure he is happy with his current team but I am sure some like the wolfpack, who also supports cx when ZS wants to play in the mud, would be able to pay him more. But there probably isn't space in the wolfpack for him right now. I think there are a couple world tour teams that support both disciplines.

CX, road and MTB aspirations.... I think only Trek - Segafredo span all of those disciplines at a top level?

He wants to compete at the 2020 Olympics on a mountain bike.

Also, is the majority of his salary paid by Corendon-Circus or by Canyon? Sagan is mostly paid by Spez, so is tied to the brand. It would be interesting to see if a switch to Katusha or Movistar might be on the cards post Olympics as Canyon pull the strings for their athlete.
