Hubber BDF down on Hendrik Potgieter

I registered on this forum just to say thank you for the thoughts, prayers and condolences from this cycling community.

The Cyclist is my brother, Bryne Forgey. He was tragically killed when an oncoming car lost control after swerving and crossed over the road killing him instantly. He lived in Strubens Valley, so Hendrik Potgieter was one of the roads he frequented on his bike.

He died while doing something he really loved.

I will miss him terribly, we were very close.

He was 51 years of age

His wife and two teenage children are broken.

Holy cow no ways!! We went for a ride 4 weeks ago just before he went to hospital. He was such a positive guy and truly believed in making difference in the world.

He was a Hubber too, BDF, he is the one who started that Safe Cycling pledge.

So sorry for your loss :(

No, this makes it so much worse for me. Very active Hubber and posted Friday on the Titan thread. Nogal replied to one of my posts. It's as if I lost a friend.

I think it to be just right that we have a Hubber Tribute thread, to honour all our fallen hubbers, and that Admin update his profile signature to reflect this.

This may sound strange but thanx for posting the family picture.

It has just made it extremely real.

And heart wrenching.

(Makes me want to hang up my road bike)

This family will be in my prayers.

This is terribly sad. Heartbreaking. RIP Bryne and our condolences to his family. Right now his widow and children need all the support they can get and more. Much love Anthony.

The worst kind of news to get. Much sadness felt here. Anthony, thank you for sharing such a personal loss with us, your post has touched this cycling community. The Forgey family are in my prayers.

To all of you... thank you for your kindness.  I (and the family) really appreciate your very kind considerations.

He started cycling in the mid 80's because I was quite into it.  I used to ride with Gary Beneke and Andy McLean back then.  I haven't been on a bike competitively since 1990 (If I remember correctly) I was better on the track because I'm fat and road riding doesn't favour the fat.  Bryne also stopped for some time but then got back into it probably around 10 or 15 years ago. He had a disturbingly high pain threshold and could ride harder than his fitness level as a result.

Although he enjoyed the road riding, he enjoyed MTB more.  He often went to northern farms to ride, and over the past 2 years his son would join him on many of his rides.  I'm grateful that yesterday was not one of those times.

Here's a pic of Bryne (BDF) that I found on this forum.  His description for the photo was:" the absolute sufferfest that was the Ashburton Rooiberg race

here"s a couple of other posts with pics of him.  I'm finding it quite cathartic reading some of his posts, enjoying his dry sense of humour (which we share) and seeing the pics of him enjoying his riding.

No, I was hoping that I was mistaken this morning after seeing the photo it looked like BDF. I was hoping that it was not BDF.

I saw him riding in the cradle on Father's Day this year. He was riding with his kids, and he had the look of the happiest man alive that day. I had a particularly *** ride that day, but seeing his content made me get over myself. RIP BDF.

A great loss to the forum and our community.
