New SRAM purchase from CRC

Hi All,

Yesterday I got my SRAM goodies bought from CRC. Why am I posting? Well I bought these goodies after CRC stopped listing SRAM products for buyers from SA.  So I thought I will tell you how I did it (NOTE: I do not know if they since corrected it)

It was purely accidental. I was logged in, but my country and currency settings were UK and GBP.  I then added the SRAM goods to a wish list.  At this point I did not know that I could not buy these items anymore.

After making up my mind, I went back online to buy the items.  This time fixing my country to SA, but keeping currency in GBP.  Low and behold I could not view the SRAM goods anymore.  This is when I read on The Hub of the change. I then went into my wishlist, and saw the items were still listed in there, and I then added it from my wishlist (there is a function to move the items from wishlist to cart). Success, they were added to my cart. Thinking that somewhere in the checkout process this oversight will be picked up, I continued through the checkout process and again, Success.  Items were shipped and received.

Those interested in the prices (I used vouchers and the ZAR exchange rate reflects the average I bought the vouchers for)

GX Shifter GBP23.99 @ 20.10   R482.20

GX Deraill GBP66.29 @ 20.10   R1332.43

XT Casse GBP54.99  @ 20.10   R1105.30

SARS Charge (GBP145.47 * 17.563 (SARS exchange rate) * 1.1 * 14%) = R393.45 (NOTE: No Duties)

SAPO clearance Fee  R43

Total Rand = R3356.58

Why? Are the goods illegal? Are the goods dangerous?

Does The Hub have any responsibility to enforce SRAM's distribution agreements?

Maybe we should rather ask why is it possible to buy something abroad cheaper than at home considering that an individual does not have the buying power and shipping rates a local company should have or negotiate

If it doesn't work you can also use a proxy :D

*Forget that! It doesn't seem to matter. I was signed in and the simple change of country and currency unblocked it all. Can add it straight to cart while signed in and off you go!

I use it just to look though as I can't afford anything anyway :(

*(The above didn't change)

Comparing E-Tap prices one can understand why ordering from abroad is so attractive. What markup is the local distributor adding?? Jeez I understand everyone is entitled to make a profit but they're ripping the ring out of it.

Can you run a 11-46 on a gx derailer or not? What would you guys suggest? Going Xt or gx? I currently have sram xo 2x10 but wanna convert to 1x11.

I am going XT - it gets great reviews and one doesn't need to deal with this SRAM importer rubbish. Look at the price of replacement casettes and chains

Have a look at Bike24. They are still shipping SRAM to SA and they had a great Black Friday Special on the Etap upgrade set.

I see it's now selling for 1066 euros ex. shipping (https://www.bike24.com/p2163586.html)

*Edit: I got the set for 933 Euros on Black Friday.

A mate of mine just picked up the shifters and derailleurs for R15 000. This isnt available locally but I can just imagine how much itll be here. He got free shipping as another friend came home for the holidays

One thing I have noticed with importing, Bring in the high end stuff. Locally the difference between XT and XTR is almost triple. Importing die difference is probly about 75% more

Upgraded my 29er in July and 11spd xtr(Shifter, derailluer, XT cass) cost just R500 more then locally bought XT 11spd shifter, derail, cassette.

just my 2c
