I feel for you guys.

I am very lucky to have a missus that I do. We share this passion, however she is about 300 times more obsessed than most cyclists.

I have gotten over all the crap and pretence of other people.. and avoid socializing as much as possible.

As for getting flack for riding while on holiday .. only from our kids when we spend too much time on the bike and not on the beach[emoji23] [emoji23]

Crap and pretence about sums it up 100%

Point that I think most miss is that I am in a happy relationship (mostly), do well at work, feel good physically etc. and this is all because I am (maybe a bit too) passionate about what I love!

Flip I'm suddenly grateful to have friends that are lekker people.

Our friends are a mismatch of varsity friends, church friends and people that ride. Buy we have very little brandewyn en coke manne (I am a sucker for a decent brandy - no mixing though) and trophy wives in our crowd. Buy I'll go to war for all of them and know I can call them any time of day to help out. People that really care for each other is invaluable.

Be yourself. Settle for nothing less. It's an eye opener what it reveals. I have just come out of a 11 year marriage where I was the person my ex wanted me to be and found fault for the fact that I wasn't that.. I felt guilt for it, but eventually woke up and said "no more" so I left. Best thing for both of us unfortunately

Now I know what gets my rocks off (but I always knew). Riding lots with like minded people. We may only be like minded while we are out for those few hours and I don't know if we would even recognize each other without the shades and helmet...but so what.

Having a few beers and the odd smoke, good music and being damn good at my job.

I studied fine art and am itchin to take pencil to paper again and draw.

Being who you are will attract like minded folk who you feel comfortable with.

Train hard work hard play hard.

Gave my wife two options

Cycling or hookers and drugs.

She picked cycling, so it was her decision.

Problem solved.

Hookers and drugs would have been cheaper

Lucky you that she chose to cycle! Having a wife on drugs and consorting with prossies must be a huge hassle. :(

OP's post very true.

But I have remedied this problem.

All my friend also cycle . . .

We don't go to people who dont cycle, because we don't know such people.

We braai to plan races, we braai to watch TDF and Paris Roubaix.

Everybody eats  about the same, try to be lean( I struggle the most with this one) and go home early for tomorrow morning's 5-am ride.

The wife can listen and talk to the other wives about whatever.

My family understands the importance of training and being fit. Also that cycling (for me) and running (for her) is quiet time. Maybe like yoga.

The argument for the "outsiders": If I can stay healthy and productive (earning money) for one more than an unfit person - it will be the best investment I can possibly make. Myles M will work it out for you.

Not married but have a serious relationship with my bike. Balance my time between work, riding and spending as much time as possible with my 5 year old son.

Self employed and get to ride just about as often as I like...don't drink and couldn't care less for late nights and piss cat superficial braais, pubs or the like!

Don't wanna be tied down again in a relationship where the other half tries to dictate what to do...had way too many years of that sh*t.

Socialise with family and like minded people only...life's too short for anything else!

Grease? Dude, there are better lubes out there... Much cleaner. Just don't compare their dual suspensions or say you may need a new rack, or you will be on your bike.

I like BIG racks.. DD AT least.... ;) with cyclists legs...

Your family understands if you don't train you might well shoot them...

I just consider cycling to be my recreational drug of choice... this is easier for my wife to swallow than some of my previous obsessions... which involve fast cars and unpowerd human flight ... ok I am still obsessed with those but don't talk about it to her anymore... this is safer for me...
