Tokai Strava segment removal

Those of you that use Strava may notice some changes over the next few weeks, hopefully for the better.

Tokai has way too many old, outdated and inaccurate Strava segments cluttering up the area and results. especially now that some of the trails have been altered (Mamba for instance is shorter and much faster and yet every time you ride it you get roughly six times based on the old layout), So we have contacted Strava about the removal of redundant and outdated segments. They are happy to remove them.

So with this in mind we have been plotting out new segments that now fit the rebuilt trails, and you will hopefully have less cluttered and more accurate results popping up.

Our first trail for this treatment is Mamba and once we see the results of the clean up there we will, if it has worked well, move on to the rest of the trails.

The new, more accurate segments should start popping up for you next time you ride Tokai, for now we have plotted Mamba and Boomslang, and for ease of recognition we have added TokaiMTB to the trail name (at least for now).

Any good times you had for the old segments will carry over, so don't worry about losing your PB etc it will still be there.

Can they also not do this for the 12498 segments up suikerbosie?

Good one Mark. The problem is people creating segments on top of these ones again, but lets see how it goes.

That is one of the downfalls of Strava, if every Tom & Dick and Harry are allowed to create a segment - they do!

Funny thing is. In the Euro Bikeparks people don't. They also don't make segments on illegal trails.

I think this is YET ANOTHER example of I'm the centre of the universe South African mentality.

Or a segment that is along a lekker drag but then turns off towards the end into the okes driveway and garden. So unless you trespass you have no option but to recreate a segment of the full climb.

teh first strava user to ride teh trail and see that there's no segment for that particular portion.

But what if I'm stronger in teh first part of the segment than teh second part?

Well of course that is the way it has to be for it to work - but why people feel the need to duplicate segments on popular trails/roads ad infinitum I'll never understand.

Just did a quick count - if you ride the Argus route you'll now cover close to 190 segments. I guess the good thing it is pretty much impossible to ride the Argus and not get loads of little medals on your upload
