you'll be amazed what a year can do. My first road race was the tour of Durban almost exactly a year ago. Have improved gradually over the year...stick at it and put in the Km's. You'll be amazed ,well done on today

Heh, not even a year. Carnival City in November was a 3h35m (okay in fairness I started in the 2nd last batch and there was no big group working at speed, and there was a crapton of wind), today was 2h32m. Helps getting your butt kicked by some strong Velo guys once a week!

Had a good ride in VA. Enjoyed the route and the road surface. No traffic issues along the way and it was nice not to have to dodge obstacles the whole way for a change. The bunch wasn't riding dangerously on the wrong side of the road. Feels like money well spent on a race for a change. Thanks ag and Emperors Palace :-)

A good day out in VC.  Pace much slower than expected. Nobody getting away, despite many efforts.

A near windless day, which I was happy with since I've been on a hard training block for the Sani.  Legs were not the freshest.

A mad but safe dash for the line.

My aim was a 2:45 from DL, managed a 2:41:49. I was't feeling that great physically, so pleased with my time. My strategy was to get in the first bunch and stay with them for as long as i could. I could see from last years results that that would likely result in a 2:30ish so I knew it was a bit risky. the first 45-50 were at 40km/h, this was about where I lost them. I didn't blow, it was more like my legs just didn't have enough in them. So picked up another group. Kind of ran out of legs towards the end, pushed to try sneak under 2:40 but just couldn't do it. I'm pleased though. I'm sad I can't do Tour Durban because my legs are feeling awesome! I don't even feel like I rode yesterday.

Enjoyed the race, loved the much improved road surface and as always the asg races feel very well organised.

ASG sent out a survey about this race, I suggest all who feel aggrieved use this medium to raise their issues with number collection/registration.

And don't forget to offer a (possible) solution or two - and not only complain about number collection.

Number collection was available Wed, Thu,Fri,Sat and race day Sun,except for full licence who could not pick up on Sun, CSA rules, not ASG.

ASG doesn't only organize this race.

The concern is also not about WHEN you have to collect your number but rather THAT you have to collect your number in the first place.

The people are asking for a holistic and long term solution.

Yes, indeed!

My issue is that I had to drive to the same venue twice to pick up a piece of paper earlier in the week. The notice only went out that collection on Sunday is possible after I went to go pick it up.

MTB (SA Seeding) races you have a number (and board) linked to you for life, why can't the same apply to road events? All you do is go to your LBS and get your batch sticker and goodie bag.

i think the wind split most groups up in that race. Was tough conditions.

Did VC have a better race this year compared to last year? Was it a good decision to start after the Tandems?
